Australia Day

* tries to stop laughing and has no success whatsoever *
Hurrah for Australia! I have to say that this is one of my favourite countries in the world.
Also, my country is full of ignorant twits (no offence meant to anyone else from the United States), so I'm going off to celebrate Australia Day. I hope you get to visit the aborigines, Cat!

Fantastic, Cat! I love it when people can laugh at themselves...
Just in response to post 7 by Ani: I don't think there /is/ a NZ day. We have ANZAC day, which is when all the war veterans from both sides of the ditch get together and promise not to forget. And then get drunk together.
And we have Waitangi day, which is the aniversary of when the treaty of Waitangi was signed, oficially ending the Waikato land wars in exchange for agreement to swap land for diseases or something. But no NZ day as such.

We share ANZAC day with you (funny that...) and Australia Day is the day Captain Cook apparently landed on our shores.

*Points out that said aboriginal might only have had one known ancestor because the rest got shot/stabbed/enslaved*
Theres no England day because we own too many places. It'd exclude lots of people... like Australians. Probably been frowned upon as a celebration of conquering most of the world.

Oh, and I didn't get into the Central Australia Trip. My school did it's usual trick and picked from the bottom. If they ordered the list something like this:
1. Absolutely entirely perfect would benefit completely
2. Very perfect
3. Perfect
4. Really good
5. Quite good
6. Good
7. Worth a try
8. Maybe...
9. Not really
10. Probably not
11. Nah...
12. Hell no
13. No way in hell is this person going
14. This person would not even survive the plane trip there, yet alone the rest of it. I have no idea why they applied, or how they manage to get to school each day and survive
They would pick 14 first, and work their way up. They do it all the time. Like, last year there was this pblic speaking thing and schools submitted a team of 4, pretty much all the debaters applied, they picked the people who've never done a single thing in public speaking, couldn't write speeches, and sucked. I mean, I'm all for giving everyone a chance, but it's not like getting public speaking experience is hard, join the deabting team! That's what it's there for!
This would have been different, hopefully, but the woman who takes people wasn't there for the interviews. They were conducted by the brand new principal, and the brand new DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION! WHAT THE...? And neither of them look like they've ever even seen a 2 star hotel. I mean, i've been a scout for 9 and a half years, and the director of RE was like "So, how can you contribute to the team? Aside from your scout-y rope tying or whatever, I'm just guessing here" I was so close to punching her...
So, anyway, serve them right. And just in case you're wondering, the other people who also go camping etc and like the outdoors, also weren't picked.
Cat - finished ranting now...

Sounds like you really would have liked to go, judging from that rant.
Pity you couldn't.
You'd be better off going without them anyway. More fun, too.
