Your little white rectangle at the bottom doesn't seem to be working on Netscape. What was it supposed to do?

No, it doesn't work for me either, which is a shame, since I put it there. It should autoplay an MP3 of one of the tracks from my latest ep, but it doesn't. I'm trying to sort out some wavs at the mo which should be fine. Problem is they take up so much space for such a short play length. C'est la wotsit.

Make the WAVs a little smaller and get that played-down-the-phone quality of the 11KHz sampling rate. How are MP3s created? Can anyone do it?

Anyone can encode an MP3 all they need is encoder software - there's a demo version of some here http://www.iis.fhg.de/amm/download/index.html limited to a 30sec output.

I'm not sure that you can embed mp3s into webpages for auto play - I know you can embed midi, wav & realaudio as well as the common movie formats but remeber size is everything.

Nothing autoplays for me any more.Large pop-up things saying how brilliant QT and Apple are block my every attempt to hear something. I can't even watch Park Wars any more as it's somehow been corrupted by the evil white boxes.

Wini: One of the QT upgrades was completely invasive and buggy as all getout... Back down to a lower version (or upgrade, if they've fixed it.. I don't know) and try that.

Yep I have that QT version - it keeps suggesting I might like to pay some money & upgrade to a fully featured version - urrgh not even Bill dares try that. I got around the problem of nothing ever wanting to play by installing a later version of windoze mediaplayer which reset all the file usage preferences that QT had stolen/overwritten.

I've tried resetting all the file types to play under RealTime or something else but it insists on showing me this popup. I haven't found the QT directory yet to disable it but I'll have to find something that works as everything is reset every time I come back to a terminal and it's very irritating to have to press the "Later" button every single time I go to my h2g2 base page. I'll have another pokeā€¦

I think the easiest - though least acceptable - response to this nagware is to pay.

Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here

Email them and say you are from New Zealand which has privacy laws covering computer software and demand they email you the removal steps.

It worked for me when I was trying to get rid of Post-It nagware

Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here

Further to my earlier posting. This is what I wrote, and it worked.

Please explain how I remove your worthy product, which after trying I decided was surplus to my requirements, from my desktop.

Please note: In NZ our Government has extremely strict rules about purchasers rights to purchase or decline to purchase.

Good Luck

Removing it completely (well.. as completely as the MS registry allows) is probably a simple matter of going to the
control panel/add remove software
and removing it. Then it wouldn't hurt to run Regclean once or twice if you have it.

The problem is that I'm using computers in the university, which reload from a central depository at each logon attempt. You've onyl got the contents and settings of the desktop saved between sessions - QT, WinAMP, realtime, virus drivers and all the rest are loaded from the central database each time. Will there be a way of persuading QT (currently on v4.0 demo) to run a version lower at the start of a session so that I only get annoyed once? I've reset all the file types to run under something else but it hasn't worked. Need I secrete an ini file somewhere where it will be saved between sessions that I can reload to persuade the settings to disclude QT?

Probably, but whether or not the Uni Sysadmin has left it so you can change it is another matter.

Btw, to where are you driving your virii? smiley - winkeye
