I was asked to mosey over and suggest that you send your fiction to the AWW (Alternative Writing Workshop). (You just choose Alternative Writing Workshop from the pull-down menu instead of Peer Review.)

That's a funny story, although it could use a few rebel flags and ceiling fan jokes...smiley - whistle

It could also use GuideML, which would spruce it up a bit. Just gives the prose that clean, minty flavour...

You can find the GuideML (it's easy) at: A187229

Peer Review's for the factoid-laden stuff.

Hope you enjoy yourself around here, and hope you send us more stories.

Since new Researchers sometimes don't get the feel right away, you might take a gander at smiley - thepost, just to get to know some of the folks around here. (And for another place that features non-Guide-type writing.) It's on reruns, but you might enjoy it. Just click on the icon on the front page.

Thank you for your time and advice but does not pushing my work to the CWW defeat the spirit of what DNA wrote the guide for in the first place to make people laugh? Because much of what is found in the guide in the form of "entries" are nothing more than opinions, conjecture, or regurgitated and unresearched "facts" that the writer dug up on the internet. It is terribly unfair and disgraceful to the memory of DNA that entries such as mine are relagated to the absurd and fanciful not being allowed in the more respectable areas of this fine publication. The great and wonderful thing about DNA was that he did't take himself to seriously some at the guide take themselves WAY to seriously. That was not a shot at you Dmitri once again thank you for your time and keep laughing.smiley - biggrin

For being here a short time, you zeroed in rapidly on a current debate.smiley - winkeye

As it stands right now, the rules are:

Edited Guide = needs to be factual, does not need to be funny, and is expressly not supposed to be written in the style of an homage to the late Mr Adams.

I sneak and do funny, though. This is still a Guide Entry: A49887832 (All the facts are as accurate as possible.)

The UnderGuide recruits from the AWW. Funny is only one of the things it does. My latest UG entry wasn't funny at all (and wasn't meant to be: A52976334.

The smiley - thepost is more flexible, and you can get away with stuff like this: A49844361.

You might enjoy checking out the 'Ask the h2g2 Community' set of threads for varying views on what the Edited Guide ought and ought not to be doing (and to get to know a few folks, you'll like 'em). There's been quite a bit of discussion lately. For a bit of the original vision, I looked up this statement by Douglas Adams: A550955.

Still plenty of room for laughter - which is, after all, the best medicine.smiley - biggrin

First of all thank you for the time and energy that you have exhibited in regards to my entries, forgive the lateness of my reply. I have resigned myself to the fact that my entries will always be relagated to your afformentioned areas.I know that you and everyone else that chimed in on my work have nothing but the best intrests of the guide in mind when they critiqued my work.

smiley - smiley My pleasure.

Since we all play by the House Rules (literally), people are just anxious to make sure that newcomers feel welcome and don't get shocked when they find out that the site is divided up into different writing fora. (They are redesigning that front page as we speak, and it will look different and have more prominent places in it, if I understand correctly, very soon...)

Personally I don't find the AWW a relegated sort of place, but then, I like writing fiction as much as I like writing non-fiction, if not more.

Reason I was on at this time of night was that I just stuck a short story on there which I hope our Prez will not kill me for writing: A57875593. smiley - winkeye

(Inside joke: It's about librarians. Hypatia, our President, is a librarian, there's a bunch of them around.)

Hope you'll keep writing, wherever your inclination leads you.smiley - smiley

GREAT ENTRY the cannibal piece was great it gives me something to shoot for and seems to be a great example of a guide entry. This and many other entries I have had the leisure to read of late have really given me something to think about.

Thanks.smiley - biggrin That's what we're always hoping for - more writers, more writing, especially guide entries that grab people.

And these days, those guide entries will be up on that front page for a whole week. (Look at the bottom of the page, you can check feedback out on Twitter, no less.)

I'm headed offline now, but it's great to hear from you.smiley - smiley
