Fathers Day and all the questions it posed.
Sir Archibald Nutcracker III Started conversation Sep 7, 2003
Today was fathers day in New Zealand.
We, as per usual, gathered together and did some family thing, this year happened to be me and my sister surprising Dad with a big hearty breakfast, complete with Bacon, Eggs, Spaghetti, Hash Browns, Fried Tomatoes, onions and off course toast.
It was a feast, unfortunately for me my parents live over and hour away, so I had to be up at the crack of dawn in order to arrive early enough for the surprise.
Predictably enough it all went well.
The question I came away with was, "Is family as we know it over?" I mean, is it now time to move onto the next generation and slowly let my syblings and these mass meetings slowly slip into history, as we all go off and create our own lives and have our own children?
It almost seems as though we are in the dieing throws of this old family and all of us are hanging on by our nails.
Especially this year as we seem to have had one party, gathering, celebration after another.
A wedding, a birthday., mothers and then fathers day, another birthday blah blah blah.
Am I just cynical? Or is it more that im just sick and tired of schlepping my butt to Huntly every weekend?
Ahh well, another day is over.
