Some interesting developments in the way the UN Human Rights Council has decided to discuss Islamic human rights issues...they aren't going to...

So bascially because the UN Human Rights Council hasn't got a scholar on the council they can't discuss Sharia Law.
That's like saying no-one can discuss the bible and the Church Of England 'rules' because there isn't a Theologian around.
I give you Sam Harris:

This is very much a case of: they are our laws so you can't criticise them. But that's pretty much how all religions hide behind bigotry...'It says so in the Bible...we don't hate the sinner just the sin.' etc

It's not just Islam, though. It is all religions according to the second link.
And frankly speaking, since nobody listens to the UN why is it a problem? Individual governments are still free to say what they like, as is the EU. Just as long as they open their mouths and say something... I'm not holding my breath, however.

I agree; this is more a case of the UN being realistic. There are numerous UN member states, some of them on the permanent security council, who regularly flout UN declarations or treaties (how much influence on China do you think the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has?).
