P2P to be made illegal
HappyDude Started conversation Jun 6, 2008
P2P is to be made illegal (even when used to share works that are legally available) according to reports at http://www.boingboing.net/2008/06/06/secret-supercopyrigh.html and http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Proposed_US_ACTA_multi-lateral_intellectual_property_trade_agreement_(2007)
Anybody any thoughts?

Not many thoughts, but does it really make P2P illegal - it seems to say it would make facilitation of copyright theft illegal, which would mean sites like pirate bay would disappear but not bittorrent clients, for example. (Assuming I've understood it right.)
Anyway, even if it happens one of two things will happen: servers move to other countries; someone invents a new distributed protocol like freenet for storing torrents. The only way they can really stop it is to make uploading illegal...
