Hello David,
I seem to have struck a snag in trying
to send another posting of my wartime
exploits to the site. On 2 seperate occasions I have typed another story to the site and when I press the'SAVE'
button I get the connect to the net and then find the page is not available and the entire typescript is
lost.Perhaps you can advise me as to
what is happening.
Many thanks and Kind regards.
Freddy Dyke.

Dear Freddy

Thank you for your message. I've had a quick look at your personal page and have found these two versions of the same article 'National Pigeon Service':

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/A2066500
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/A2064179

Is the story you were having problems with? If it is, it appears that although the page said it was unavailable your story was still stored on People's War. From your message you seem to be writing your story off-line and the computer connects to the net when you click save.

My best suggestion for the future would be to write your story totally off-line, in a programme such as notepad.

You then:

- Save the copy of your text on your own computer in notepad.

- Connect to the internet and go to the submit a story area of People's War.

- Enter the required information for your story and then 'cut and paste' the main content of your story from your locally saved file to the 'Story:' field of the submission form.

As you are online during this whole submission process, when you click 'save' the page should come up sooner and hopefully you won't loose your typescript. If you do you, can simply cut and paste in the same manner without having to re-type all of your story again.

If you are ever unsure whether or not your story has been submitted to the site you should always look under the 'My WW2 Stories and Questions' area of your Personal Page.

All your stories and questions that you write on the site will appear in this section. If you want to continue working on a piece of work you can just click on its title and then the orange 'Edit' button at the top right of the page.

I hope that this has been of some help Freddy. If you have any more questions or problems please feel free to drop me a line.

Best wishes

David - WW2 Team

Hi there David,
Many thanks again for your assistance
when I seem to get stuck.YES I am working off line when I write my stories so I will have to watch that.
As I am still a learner I suppose it does help to make mistakes but there seems to be so many things that you can do wrong. I will have to'WATCH IT'
Many thanks once again for your time and trouble.
Kindest Regards and Best Wishes.

FREDDY DYKE.
