David and my stories

Hello David,
Many thanks for your time and trouble in the re-submitting of my stories from the local Silver Surfers group which will now be editable to me under my user name.I will leave them for a little while as it might be a little bit encouraging to other members to write their own stories.
On a subject that is a little nearer to your person RE-Monte Cassino and the loss of your Uncle, although I was not personally involved I do recall the fierocious events that took place in ITALY 1944.The conditions that the Allies fought under was near unbearable as the weather was at its worst, and the terrain and the Monastry gave effective cover to the Germans and Italians securely entrenched.Because this Monastry was in a very dominate position and many lives were lost as a result of the stuborne resistance, the YANKEE Air force was instructed to saturate these positions by massive Bombing which they did efectively. It did help a great deal but even so the Allied forces had to try and by-pass this hold up in their advance and had to make the landings at ANZIO,again with serious losses before the advance could continue. These events were probably some of the hardest fought during the whole of the 39-45 campaign
and all of those that took part should be justly proud. I found it hard to hear that some bright 'ERBERT'
wrote a song called 'The DDAY DOdgers'
the boys of Sunny Italy, when this episode was so very far from the truth
YOU should be proud of your Uncles contribution and realise he was one of the many that made the ultimate sacrifice. Well David I hope I have helped you in some small way, so all for now. Kindest regards and Best Wishes. Freddy Dyke.

Hi Freddy
Thank you very much for your kind and informative message. I'm glad that you now have access to your own stories through your own user account and I look forward to seeing the updates to your stories in the future.
I do indeed feel proud that one of my relatives was part of the momentous battle of Monte Cassino, and I'm hoping to add some more details of my great Uncle sometime in the future on the site, as well as other family war-time experiences.
Thank you very much for getting involved in the People's War site Freddy, if you have any questions or problems in the future please feel free to drop me a line.
Best wishes
