Geggs

Something I learnt the other day - back in the 4th Century BC Philip of Macedon issued a threat to Sparta, saying: "If I enter your territories, I will destroy you all, never to rise again."

The Spartans replied with just one word, "If". Philip decided to go elsewhere.

You can call me TC

What does that mean? "Hide behind a wall, two idiots are on a collision course"?

Fear of being found out and panic. smiley - dontpanic I saw this thing on Facebook, a game of find your tory name. It was to combine the street where you grew up with your grandads name and school head teachers name.

Stupid to answer that with info that could be used to set up a profile; I saw a documentary where somebody owed hundreds of thousands to a bank where they were previously turned down for a small loan, because somebody modified their profile.

Now that is stupid. smiley - puff

I don't know what my grandfathers' names were. Not because no one knew who they were, I hasten to add, but they were dead long before I was born.

One could possibly have been called John. The other one could have been Alf. So I'll go with John.

Using the other criteria given above, I get (and these are real) :

John Milburn Snow. That sort of thing?

No one could possibly work anything out from that. The road I grew up in wasn't even an adopted road. I don't think it's on Google Street view even to this day.

I'm just very careful; if I mentioned a headmaster it would be easy to find the school, if I mention my grandads last name then you have my mothers maiden name and street I grew up in could be memorable information.

A student broke into my computer account at university where I used the passwords Maitken and others. I read that passwords in Facebook were compromised and I believe the identity thieves not only steal your identity but can give you a fantastic credit rating.

I remember seeing somebody on tv who had hundreds of thousands knicked, but it was a long time ago. Nevertheless I'm very secretive when on the internet and really only use it for photography and trivial chatter. smiley - ta

They do tell you to change your password frequently. I use a password on Boofcake that's different from my others. And changed it recently. I used to keep a list of passwords in my documents file, but now I keep a handwritten paper copy only.
