It's the first time I've seen this - a footballer allegedly makes a rude gesture (in this case a middle-finger salute) at opposing fans, but the BBC censors the picture of his hand by pixellation - see

Pixellation is the worst non-solution to a problem ever invented.

Someone on TV (or maybe radio) this week said that by pixellating the picture, the BBC was effectively declaring that this was an obscene gesture, where the footballer denies this (he claims he was signalling one-nil, I think). If so, then this editorial action could prejudice a disciplinary hearing.
