I have enjoyed posting on the QQ boards for quite a while, but of course not as long as Istvn and JR and other worthies. I was quite new to posting when I signed up with QQ and when they asked me for my name I gave it. Innocent me. I carried on with my real name but always felt that little bit of worry. Would anyone I know read it? There again it's Radio 4 and the answer must surely be no. However, writing under my own name gave me an edge. I always had to think about what I was writing and if I was accused of it could I justify it? I always think I was true to myself. Then the messageboards started shutting early. I heard about h2g2 and signed up as someone else. I then found I could not get back into the QQ boards. O.K. fine, I had got anonimity. I could be a new person on the h2g2. A few days later I look on h2g2 boards and find my old QQ name is there for all to see with my new h2g2 name. I admit that when I joined the board I may have mentioned my old name but I didn't give permission for it to be braodcast in a list for all newcomers to see.
Yours, not so anonymous.

Am I going mad? If so you will probably see two posts of this message. I was thanking people for getting rid of my old QQ name from the introductory page of h2g2. I then went on about the fact that my message said I had posted it yesterday when I was in London all day and didn't post anything. (Just for the record it is now 2/8/03 at 7.35pm) I mentioned that the people who replied to me also had yesterday as their posting date. I then must have pressed the self-destruct button. Unfinished message gone who knows where. My original question was why can't this messageboard have the old QQ system of logging the actual time when you posted instead of in hours or in days.

Hello, Sue, I too find time elapsed unhelpful, I can only assume is derives from this site's origins: a guide to the universe would hardly acknowledge GMT.

What was this site's origins, JR. No, don't tell me, I think I remember it was something to do with The Hitchhikers Guide ...I never listened to that. They say QQ is back to a vaguely good service. I have gone back and tried to get in again. If it worked I am now SH. Might see you there, too.

All the BBC boards are currently in premod, which means any message you post will not appear until a mod has read it, a delay of anything between 30mins. and several hours.

Sue - Mea Culpa - I was the one that put your name on the QQ Nights list - I am very sorry - just seemed to be that everyone else was happy to be on it - I didn't think....again,
ing in full mode!

Dear CG. Didn't mean to sound like a pompous p**t. Like you said, everyone else's name is there, but I don't think many of them had their real names to start with so it doesn't really matter if you move from one anonymous name on one site to a different but still anonymous name on another. Would you agree? Thanks for getting back, anyway.

Hello Sue, I too started out on QQ with my real name, thinking 'radio4, civilised people, that'll be ok', but then I looked around some of the other boards on the site, and found some very strange people, so I reverted to my initials.

Sue you didn't sound like a pompous prit prot or prat - you were quite right and I am sorry for being so thoughtless.
My real name is Sarah btw.

I like the way you confidently write 'Premod" as if there were some method to the disruption - when what has really happened is that too many people have been inattentive, for too long. Only now, when the rubbish is littering the floor, has someone decided to empty the bin...

Sorry, I meant the R4 boards. Only now ('cos they're in an awful mess) we're all being penalised while they're getting sorted - if that's what's happening. I know some people may never return.

Yes, it's really sad, the R4 boards were so good for a while, but over the last six months or so they have gone steadily downhill.
We keep clinging on, in the hope that they will come right, but now I wonder if anybody at the beeb cares at all.
