h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

ugh, I had some nasty taco bell last night (for any readers outside of the USA who are unaware of taco bell, as I am unaware of the dispersion level of said taco bell, taco bell is a chemical waste disposal facility disquised as a fast food 'resturaunt')

Well, atleast I figure it was the taco bell. Atleast, it came out the same consistency as refried beans. I was up unto 3am blasting my bowels into a bowl before blowing it away. Luckily I didn't have to stick my head into the bowl before flushing.

Only 3 and a half more weeks to the boring internship. I started the summer working for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is a division of Health and Human Services (HHS), on a program called Project Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System (HIGLAS), as a member of the Technical Configuration Group (TCG). We have so many accronymns, we need a 50 page table, called the Fast Accronym Reference Table (FART, for the slow). However, my skills are being sorely misused. I have corrected the grammar of an IBM contractor in his pathetic attempt at a System Security Plan (SSP) and Risk Assesment (RA). I have downloaded hundreds of documents from a web portal, just so they could be moved to another web portal. I should be DESIGNING the web portal. I'm a freaking computer science student, on an internship, when am I going to do computer science STUFF!?

I digress....no, I'm going back. This place is rediculous. No body ever does any work. This week, half the people in my department (including my supervisor) are on vacation, so I'm left here practically alone with nothing to do (except post to numerous web forums, including www.gamedev.net, www.karateforums.com, and now www.h2g2.com). Even when people are here, it seems like they forget about me, especially since my cubical is on the 3rd floor when the rest of the department is on the first floor.

This time, I really do digress. So, I've spent time working on my website (cutter.ship.edu/~smcbeth). It's started to come along rather well, and I am particularly proud of my chess board (cutter.ship.edu/~smcbeth/chess). It is a chess BOARD, mind you, not a chess GAME, so don't expect it to actually play with you, or even to check if you have made a valid move. It is really meant to be a front end to a campus chess engine project (cutter.ship.edu/~shipmate).

Oh well, I guess that's it. Can't give away all my secrets on the first day.
