- The Galactica Main Theme and incidental music were composed by Stu Phillips, and played by the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra. This added to the cost of the first season.
- Maren Jensen was dropped midway through the first season; Starbuck's girlfriend was Cassiopeia (Lanette Spang), a former courtesan who became a medic on the show.
- Boxey (Noah Hathaway) became Troy in the Galactica 1980 revival, played by Kent McCord. Besides Greene, Herbert Jefferson Jr. returned as Boomer, this time promoted into Colonel Tigh's position.
- Two factors played a role in the failure of the Galactica 1980 revival: the scheduling in the 7 p.m. Sunday timeslot (which was mandated by FCC to be used for either news programs or show directed to children for educational value); and a restricted budget.
- In syndication deals, the 1980 episodes are usually bundled with the original series under the "Battlestar Galactica" name.
