This one's a little on the long side, but it's fairly comprehensive, I think.

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

Looks good to me.smiley - smiley

It's a while since I've seen either. I thought the Fantasia 2000 wasn't a patch on the original, though!

I seem to recall hearing that on the original Fantasia the artists were given complete artistic freedom, as well as freedom of palette which was absolutely unprecedented. This eventually resulted in some kind of conflict with the female centaurs' breasts but I can't remember exactly how this went. Either the centaurs were originally drawn with breasts which was deemed inappropriate upon re-release and was covered up in the digital restoration process, or it was decided to be inappropriate in original release and changed back then. Like I said, I don't recall exactly, but my information probably came from one of the 'behind the scenes' bonus features on the dvd release.

I also remember seeing something about the production of the Ave Maria sequence, specifically the method of filming the scene in 3D. Apparently the background was painted on several panes of glass and the camera pulled back through them to create the effect. This also comes from the bonus material... I could watch it again (it's been a few years) to clarify but it would probably be a few weeks before I could do this.

The Ave Maria information probably isn't that important as you've already mentioned that this sequence is unique. I think the bit about the artistic freedom is important though.

Of course, it's up to you.

Fantastic entry at any rate smiley - ok

Actually, according to John Canemaker's commentary on the DVD release, the male centaurs were initially designed to be much more masculine and virile than what actually appeared on the screen.

There was also the question of a black female centaurette (her maquette can be seen on The Reluctant Dragon) whose appearance was eventually considered too stereotypical for modern tastes. The way she was excised from the film was by zooming in on one of the female centaurettes, to the detriment of the film's reproduction quality.

I choose not to mention this because I don't want to dwell on excessive details for each segment.

Very nice entry. Sorry I don't have anything more helpful to say.

My kids both liked 2000, while my eldest didn't like the original as much as our 4-year old...

smiley - cheers
