I sort of have the option to turn my contract work for one place into full time work, if I want to. I need to decide tonight.
The people are really nice. The work is pretty interesting. The title will look great on paper. I'd get to develop skills in some crucial areas.
The only thing stopping me from jumping right on it is, perhaps, a bit silly - I don't love it. With my last job I knew within two hours that I absolutely loved it there, and in fact I ended up loving it more every day.
I wouldn't, say, marry someone, or even seriously date someone, if I weren't wildly in love with them; why should I agree to spend 60 hours a week somewhere I only vaguely like?
Money, maybe. Job security. Pride. Opportunity.
Is it enough? I honestly can't tell.

This job isn't a life long contract, but it is a contract non-the-less. It can be difficult to dedicate yourself to such a project with time and labor demands you are not sure you want to make. There are more jobs, and a temp company can take you to them. there is no reason to buy into the first oppertunity. It would be wonderful to do so but if you come to resent going to work because you don't love it, 60 ours will feel like 100 and you will feel drained, too much to look for something you do enjoy. Katharine, you get so few chances to do what you want. Look for the job you want. Look for something that makes you giddy. Look for something you are proud of.
Just advice. Only you can decide.

Normally I'd say that was a pretty tough call, particularly if it was a while between jobs and stuff. But you're in a hot industry and perhaps even more important, you've seen what it's like to work in a job you don't love. Only you know for sure whether you think it can be enough without that, even if just for a little while. My hunch, looking at what you said from the outside, is that it might not be.

If you loved your last job so much, why'd you leave?

Unfortunately, I didn't. I was laid off. But that's life.

They made the formal offer today, I'm going to take it. The past few days have been really good there.
It's a close knit group, and at first that really freaked me out. Ever since I chose a school based on the level of anonymity it had to offer (you don't get more anonymous than New York), I've grown quite comfortable circulating through life being nobody special. But I think eventually we all have to grow up and be who we're going to be, even despite ourselves.
They're so warm and enthusiastic about me joining the team. They're incredibly friendly. It's going to be a huge commitment - this job isn't a job, it's a life, for all of them. So it's going to take some adjusting. But in a very good way, I get the feeling.
I'm excited. It feels...very real
