even snakes are afraid of snakes
Kate Started conversation Jan 13, 2000
Okay. So last week I got a cell phone. A Nokia, don't ask me the model number or anything because you know I'm hopeless with that sort of thing.
Anyway, I notice it has games, and my first thought was "what kind of loser needs games on her cell phone?" Three hours later I'm screaming "turn right! turn right dammit!" at the thing. Snake. Perhaps even more addictive and silly than Freecell.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, is as addictive and silly as Freecell.
You know that.
Well, except maybe crack, but that's just on hearsay.

Freecell? Hmm, I could never get a hang of that game. Solitare, on the other hand, is rather addictive.
Half the teenagers in Sydney have Nokia phones and play Snake. A lot. Just so you know that you have company, Kate.
It's why I am refusing to get a Nokia-- Ericson all the way.

I would be all for Ericson, only it was so shamelessly promoted in Goldeneye, I just couldn't give that pitiful excuse for a "movie" or its makers the satifaction

Well, I almost bought a Nokia when I got mine a couple months ago, but the Nokia I would have wanted to get cost $90 more than the Qualcomm I ended up with. (That's $190 vs $100.) The Qualcomm only lacked one feature I wanted (throwing out the games, hee hee) and it sure wasn't worth $90 (I wanted the possibility of vibrating alert in place of the ring). And the Qualcomm was even lighter. Sold. I still find all the Ericssons quite clunky, really.
As for Bond, well, can you say film snob? *runs away*

Clunky? All the Ericsons I know-- but these are in Australia, mind you, so they might be different-- are a lot lighter and smaller then any of the Nokias. The one I'm getting, a T10, is reasonalbly smaller and a fair bit more compact than the common Nokia ones. Of course, there's the very small Nokias but I don't think they really count as there are very small Ericsons as well (the T28s, it's tiny). I don't know Qualcomm so I can't compare to them.
I have never watched a James Bond movie in my life. Never. Well, not a whole one anyway. I've seen a few little bits of the old ones when my brother was going through a phase, but nothing I saw inspired me to watch a whole one. Does that make me a film snob too?
Shameless promotion would have bothered me, had I seen it. But I haven't, so I'm not going to worry.

Well, if it's any consolation, I recently saw and enjoyed Moonraker But I'm sorry, Goldeneye was a feature-length commercial. It was even shot like a TV ad. Granted, a very glitzy, superbowl-esque TV ad, but an ad nonetheless.

Don't you mean Tomorrow Never Dies, Kate? That's the four long adverts one, apauling film that focused on the telephone and BMW cars and Motorbikes. Goldeneye didn't have a phone in it from what I can remember... *goes off to fast spool through the film*

*having fast forwarded through the whole of Goldeneye without a single telephone being seen*
Yeah you must mean Tomorrow Never Dies, which is the one 'about' a media tychoon played by Jonathan Pryce, the worst bond film ever made...
I didn't think Goldeneye was as bad as you said, or at least I didn't think my film taste was, as eye thought Goldeneye was quite good

Awwwww...*pats Ant on the head* Ain't he CUTE??
Andy has a cell phone and he never gets a moments rest. One of his favorite things about coming to the states is that he gets to leave the damned cell phone at home.
He needs it for work though.
I thought I might get one but he has advised against it strongly and with much swearing.

Ant is indeed the cutest!
I can't *believe* you fast forwarded all the way through Goldeneye just to look for a phone!!! And yes, you're right, I meant Tomorrow Never Dies. How's *that* for film snobbery, I don't even know my Bond titles! You'll have to try and educate me on the finer points of 007 while you're in the States
Krissy - The cell phone constant ringing can become a problem - that's why only two people have the number to mine But that's actually mostly because I was too cheap to get a plan that would actually allow me to use it socially.
But the privacy thing can be a huge issue - I faced that even with my pager. There's something really disturbing about being reachable all the time.

That's why I have a pager, at least you can pretend you didn't get the message
Then I recommend you watch Goldeneye, Kate No second thoughts, watch From Russia With Love with Sean, it's my favourite

Goldeneye was better than Tomorrow Never Dies. I dunno, I haven't ever attempted to watch most of the really old ones. I've seen more of the ones with Roger Moore, I think, including Moonraker, which I've seen a few times now oddly enough. They used to play the Bond films on TBS all the time (or TNT, one of them), and back when I actually had cable I would occasionally watch.

Yes. Yes I could. But I probably won't.
Andy and I watched The Fugative AND Regarding Henry last night. It was a Harry Fest.
It's good that he doesn't mind that I'm wild about Harrison because it's obvious in the way I drool every time he's on the screen.
