No it's not ironic or oxymoronic - the derbyculture.com really is about culture (and living) in this rather maligned of East Midlands Towns. The site's been up about 2 months now and has a really up-todate, lively, youthful and comprehensive load of gubbins about Derby - including an on-line What's On database that wees all over anything else available yet, a Free, uncensored Forum and all sorts of other 'tings.

I've just checked out the page on Normanton (where I live) I couldn't agree more. See example below of this excellent pice

Normanton still has its Victorian and Edwardian
charm, albeit somewhat faded. But it is now
tempered with a young, funky streetlife and energy
mixed with the now highly regarded virtues of
community and friendly ‘corner shop’ retailing.
Problems are evident in some parts but these can
be linked to poverty and the disenfrachisement of
large groups of people. Both are the legacy of good
old fashioned British racism, snobbery and
misunderstanding. The residents are no more and no
less friendly than in other parts of the city

My only real critisim is of the description of the Falstaff pub as an Irish pub. It hasn't been in Irish ownership for some two or three years now. But the existing owners are excellent despite this and are planning the addition of a microbrewery as well as the continuos round of guest ales and free bands.

Hello,

Now dont get me wrong here, but i wouldnt recommend the falstaff to an outsider, it is probably the most unfriendly pub I have ever visited, the place is a dive, the beer may be good, but the atmosphere is not, I guess the Locals may like it, but if you are an unfamiliar face then you won't want to be staying long.
