A higher intelligence existed in the universe and they looked exactly like us, well almost. Suppose that over the past millennia they had tried to contact us, leaving messages telling us what they looked like, giving us books which we have translated, then they leave us and only pop in incognito because of the reaction we apparently gave one of 'em. Perhaps our ancestors called these visitors from other planets Gods.
They would get a very skeptical welcome on their return, would they not? Could it be that the study of Theology and SETI are not too distant at all.
Meanwhile back to reality, lets spend loads on space ships because they are out there somewhere. What's the alternative? They are deep within us? Maybe the Atlanteans could talk to them? Just thinking out loud
