I'm not a very musical person. Sure, I learned to play the recorder when I was a child, we used to sing a lot at home, and I was a member of various choirs for years, but I still think that's just average.
I'm not one to go to concerts, either.
I've only ever been to a proper concert one (AHA, I think it was) and I hated every minute of it.
However, there is a yearly festival in the neighbouring town, and they do open-air concerts with cover bands.
Last year, it was the Quinns http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4e0aiCuC0s
I enjoyed the concert very much. It's held on a big lawn, surrounded by trees. There are tables and benches and beer and bratwurst, and you can spend a great evening with friends, food and drink.
I was sad to learn that the lead singer died a few months later, only aged only 59, and the band has since dissolved.
This year, we went to see Floyd Reloaded: http://www.floydreloaded.com/ . I didn't know what to expect, I only knew very few Pink Floyd songs, but since we had had such a great time last year, the weather was great (warm and dry), and it is close to home (and FREE) I agreed to give it a try, cause there was no risk. If I didn't like it, I could just go home again.
I tried to capture some of the most marvellous show they put on on my mobile phone, so please excuse the poor quality*. I think you'll still get an impression of it. The band played a full three hours non-stop. They didn't even take a break for a drink or something, and if you are familiar with Pink Floyd songs and the considerable length most of them have as well as not being easy to play the performance was absolutely stunning.
At both festivals the atmosphere was fantastic. last year's show invited to dance, while this year's invited to listen and sing along at times, but it certainly wasn't dance music. A great time was had by all, and the audience was very mixed, too: old people, young people, and those in between (which made up the largest part of the audience).
Nearly everybody stayed until the very end, it was truly great.
I can't wait for next year.

Thank you for your contribution! I know that it didn't render in Pliny, but it will be on the list!

The very first concert I attended "unchaperoned" by either my parents or one of my babysitters (I had a babysitter who took me to a handful of shows rather than miss them) was A-ha. I didn't hate it- but the friend I went with set my hair on fire with the lighter she was holding up- we used a LOT of hairspray back in the day, and were pretty flammable.
I haven't been to an outdoor, open-air type music festival in many years. Here in Chicago, they are usually held in the summer months, when it's too hot for me to enjoy being outdoors for very long, especially in a large crowd.
The festival you describe, with the Pink Floyd music, sounds like a lot of fun, though. I am looking forward to seeing your photos (will have to look when I get home from work).

And not to complain, but I also am looking forward to seeing internal links which I can click through again. I must be Doing It Wrong, but when I try to c&p the page number into the Search utility, I always wind up at the "Oops" page.
