Stealth "Jack" Azathoth

I'm going to reach my first quarter century this year.smiley - wah

I'm glad (and in a way sad too) I'm not the only that finds that "smiley - rainbow" seems to see the bigotry in everyone but himself.

You're sooo young. smiley - envy
And as for smiley - rainbow: he's not the only one to do so.

I guess we all have moments when we're guilty of that, but most of us try not to. smiley - smiley

oh I wish my neighbour looked like that!

as for smiley - rainbow (hi Az!) ... maybe we should all call him on it every time? But then, there are others too, so we'd be spending all our time doing it.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned the guy I work with? Oh, actually, I think I treated you to a bilingual rant about him at the airport last year?

He's taken to referring to some of the guys in our office (out of their hearing of course) as "chinkies".

smiley - grrsmiley - steamsmiley - grr

it's getting so that every other sentence I send in his direction is about either that or the way he keeps talking to the people (nationals of that country) in our factory in Poland and instead of saying Wroclaw (which is where it is) insisting on using the old German name for it (Breslau). If I were one of them I'd be hugely insulted.

Good grief, how do you prionounce that without breaking your tongue? smiley - winkeye

You mentioned that guy, I think I advised you to give him a good slapping only the other day. smiley - biggrin

What the heck are 'chinkies'?

as far as I know it's a derogotary (sp?) term for Chinese people. But then it could be for anyone with an Oriental appearance.

Complicated by the fact that Thelma from Scooby-Doo uses it as a general expostulation.

I guess I should go out more, I've never before heard that expression. 'Schlitzauge' is the one I know, and that's quite bad. Oh, just found this: http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lang=de&searchLoc=0&cmpType=relaxed&sectHdr=on&spellToler=on&search=schlitzauge&relink=on

So 'chink' is the English word for 'Schlitzauge'.

with a capital-C

or else it's just a small, thin hole in something.

The Koreans (probably Japanese and Chinese too) call westerners Round-eyes (or long-noses) of which I find the former not at all insulting and the latter ... no neither of them. Even when they mean it like that.

But then, I also don't feel particularly insulted when my smiley - grrcolleaguesmiley - grr calls me an Insel-Affe (Island Ape, for those who may be reading this and not in the know)

maybe I'm just highly tolerant. No wonder I don't get on well in The Forum smiley - laugh

Good grief, what a nasty piece of sh*t that is. I feel like having to apologise for this extremely bad behaviour. smiley - sorry

ah, but we've had this discussion before... I don't think that other Germans have to apologise for the individual nastiness of any other particular German.

Just as I don't actually feel the need (although I sometimes do) to apologise for things that English/British people do that I am not involved in
