I am hot tempered by nature and my husband NEVER looses his temper! I used to be angry every now and then but living with him has helped and I see radical changes in me! I have become smart enough to choose to be angry on few things and to be unshakable most of the time! Choose to be angry? I believe some anger and stress or eustress is important for me to function properly and to get work done from others in some situation!
Tips which work best for me are
Generally when something unexpected happens or what we expect/ wish does not happen we get tensed or angry. Best way to manage anger/ stress is telling yourself that, it is not going to help! Instead concentrate on what can be done now to improve the situation.
2. Whenever you see/ feel a potential issue/ person which may become reason for your anger/ stress, get yourself in positive mode immediately. Think in terms of area of your influence. Can you influence the situation/ person and make them work the way you want?
3. If you experience anger/ frustration/ stress, divert your attention from it, remember someone you would like to model, think how he / she would react in this situation.
Other things which help are your favourite activity/ hobby, music, relaxation, Visualisation, Yoga/ exercise etc. A friend of mine goes shopping whenever she has an argument with her hubby Well whenever we have an argument my husband starts laughing and argument dies its unnatural death!
I had attended a course on stress management, among other techniques this was the best I liked
Whenever you get angry, imagine yourself and everyone round as cartoon characters, edit your imagination and insert some funny sound clip! It will work, I am sure, only thing which bothers me is I don't remember any of these techniques when I get very angry (Good news is my anger is short lived and lasts few minutes )
