I deliberately left out the CPU-upgrading, as I have never done that. To me it's like a heart transplantation 
, something I'm a bit afraid of ...
The best upgrade in my experience is the rather 'personal' upgrade of the unit between the screen and the back of your seat. If you don't take care, your machine will clog up with all that rubbish that will slow it down. Take precuations to keep it clean and tidy, and make a cleanup party from tiem to time, that's all.
