I made a sweet potato pie this week, for the first time ever Even threw in a couple of very, very ripe bananas that had been in the fridge for a while, just to use them up. Delicious. But sweet potatoes aren't yams. Some of them are called yams in some places.

I regularly chop up a sweet potato, put it through the blender with a cup of apple juice, and add the resulting liquid to batter, which I then bake. The sweet potato and juice are sweet enough that no sugar needs to be added to the cake. But there's half a cup of raisins in it, though.

Is it true that they are served with a marshmallow topping at Thanksgiving?

Some people do. I find that to be too sickly sweet.

I quite fancy the idea of a meringue topping

I cut down the amount of sugar in the recipe I used - it came out just right for my taste

While I find the discussion of sweet potatoes vs yams interesting, I'm more interested in whether Lanza's water has been fixed yet.

Yes, thank you! A plumber came early, and fixed the burst main without delay or problem. Then he came back later and installed a new water heater, which had also been starting to fail.

I'm glad you're all sorted. It's not much fun being without water.

Two years ago I got me a brand new bathroom and at the same time had all the water pipes in my entire house changed to brand new ones made of stainles steel. This calmed me a lot. The house is from 1898...

This year it turned out the plumber forgot a vital part

I was without water for weeks back then. Would hate to have to go through that again!

Thankfully I don't have to worry about things like that here. We have a 24/7, 365 day a year service for emergency repairs, plumbing, heating etc.
