I just came back from JavaOne 1999.

Microsoft and HP bashing by Sun and IBM people were very funny as always.
Douglas Adams gave a very motivational talk on Friday. It made me realize that how exciting it is to be a part of the Internet at its early stage ... especially as a tech person helping to build it.
It was a blast. I had so much fun. I am going back next year.

I thought we were pretty restrained this year actually, compared with earlier years (and no, I can't reveal who made the "In a world without fences who needs Gates" T-shirts for JavaOne in 1996)

Douglas Adam's keynote address was something I certainly
wasn't going to miss at JavaOne, and that was where I found
out about the h2g2 project. Its a shame that this guide
doesn't contain his definition of Technology.
I got a load of other useful stuff out of the conference too,
but I don't think the boss will be sending me next year.
