Tom Sharpe, I believe was one of the funniest writers ever to put pen to paper. He wasn't always laugh out loud funny, he was darkly satirical even with situations that any other author would have made into slapstick.
It was his Porterhouse Blue that made me want to take up writing, and I'll never be able to thank him enough.

Definatly one of my favorite all time authors... Never found anyone who could write comedy like he could... very sad news indeed

Yes, RIP indeed.
His first two novels about the South African police (Riotous Assembly and Indecent Exposure) are comic genius.
