I've been rather selflessly been doing doing research into Martinis and have discovered that they don't get me drunk.

Shot wise I'm into the twenties, yet I'm actually still able to pass as coherent. Not sure if that's worrying or not.

Let me get this straight: you have had 20 shots of some kind of alcohol - I assume not of the rubbing variety.

And you are operating heavy machinery, to wit, a computer.

Is this wise?

This reminds me of the time (many years ago) when a colleague invited some of us 'girls' over for dinner at her place.

There was wine with the food and gradually, I got sleepier and sleepier. This colleague (of Polish origin) claimed it was because I hadn't had enough to drink and mixed us a huge pitcher of Dry Martini.

And you know what? Halfway through my second glass, I perked up like you wouldn't believe (I had a hard time understanding it myself)!

And it was a very good Martini - in fact, the best one I've tasted so far. Kept me going all through the rest of the evening.

He left out an e Otherwise you would have had it in a jiffy. He is using that old trick where first and last letters are where they are supposed to be and the rest jumbled and yet you can read it!

The thing that I've discovered far too often (you'd think I'd have learnt my lesson by now ) about not being able to get drunk, especially on cocktails, is that you'll keep drinking thinking either 'This is great, I can keep drinking and not get drunk ' or 'This is frustrating, I want to get drunk and I can't ', but then one will tip the scales and after that it's like an avalanche. You're unstoppably and unbelievably

The fact that Pastey hasn't posted for at least an hour makes me wonder if the next was *that*

Sorry folks, it was a rather busy day at work yesterday and my time was limited I'm afraid.

You'll all be no doubt pleased to know that I did not have that one too many cocktail, I merely realised how late it had got, and that I had work in the morning. You'll also no doubt be further pleased to know that I did not have a hangover.

I would have brought you this update last night, but when stopping off for a quiet after work drink with Phil we also happened to find BaldBloke in our local boozer (Port Street Beer House) and, well, one led to another

At least you stayed off those martinis.
