I've just read the news article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9550930.stm) that the BBC and Sky Sports are both going to show Formula 1. Okay, that's good.

There's some gushing quotes there too:

"We are absolutely delighted that F1 will remain on the BBC" Yes, me too.

"The sport has never been more popular with TV audiences at a 10-year high and the BBC has always stated its commitment to the big national sporting moments" Good, I'm glad they're committed to it, and it is a popular sport.

"With this new deal not only have we delivered significant savings..."
Ah, savings. And here's the problem:
"BBC Sport will broadcast half the races live, as well as qualifying and practice session from those races." Half?! You're only going to broadcast half the races?!

"Sky Sports will show every race, qualifying session and practice live."

So, if I want to continue to watch Formula 1 I have to give my money to Murdoch.

Sorry BBC, sorry Ecclestone, and sorry Murdoch but that is *not* going to happen. I am not going to get a Sky service just to watch Formula 1. I rarely watch television, seldom watch films. The only sport I watch is Formula 1. So, because of the BBC's gushing commitment I'm now going to not bother with that.

I don't think I'm alone in thinking this either. The BBC might as well have made even more significant savings and just not bothered, more people are going to stop watching Formula 1.

Sorry, I hadn't noticed those smiley - blush

We had heard that Channel 5 might have been taking F1 from the BBC. I think they have something to do with Sky, don't they?

If not, then we won't be purchasing Sky, nor seeing F1 smiley - cross

I've been an F1 fan for quite a long time now, but I will not get Sky.

It was annoying when Eurosport lost the rights to F1, at least then we had the choice between them and the BBC at that time.

We watch the MotoGP, WorldSuperBikes and British Super Bikes so we won't be losing our cable. Hubby might revise our TV package though.

Bloody Sky is ruining sport viewing for everyone. I used to enjoy watching Champ Cars, Indie and NASCAR until they took over the rights to view them.
