First Committee Meeting Tonight

As you can probably tell from the title, the first meeting of the new committee is tonight. This could be fun.

The chap who's getting out of control is getting even further out of control. Copies of the minutes of the previous meeting were sent out by email and he's gone through them and "corrected a few mistakes" ?! When he was secretary he never even bothered with the minutes of meetings. Now he's not secretary any more he's correcting peoples mistakes. Normally I wouldn't mind, after all minutes are supposed to be a factual record of the procedings of meetings. So what did he correct? One spelling error. I went through his version and the original and I could only find one spelling error that he corrected. And that was of a village near here that's pronounced in no way similar to how it's spelt. Fair dues, ish, but I distinctly remember at the meeting the missus asked how that place was spelt, and he was the one that told her. So it was his mistake to start with! And when going through the minutes to see what he'd altered I'd noticed three or four other spelling mistakes that he didn't change. Almost as though he knew that one place was going to be misspelt?

So anyway, I've been drawing up the branch layout and overlaying onto a map the location of the members in the rural areas, and then on top of that the location of the pubs in those areas. This means that we can visualise a lot easier where we need to divide up the branch for the Local Area Rep System - LARS for short, it was decided that the acronym for Local Area Contact sounded too much like a potion to cure diorherrra. So that's done and I've pretty much sorted where to divide the branch. Now we just need to get the areas passed in principle by the committee, then get them to pass the job descriptions of the LARs (Local Area Reps) and then we need to find the LARs. We've got seven areas, and potentially four LARs already organised, maybe a fifth but she'd be working outside of the area she lives in, which I want to avoid. The idea is that the LAR knows the area, the pubs and the members. I still have to write all this up though, ready for tonight. The reason I've not done it yet is shear blooming laziness on my part, mixed with a dash of wanting to make sure I get it down exactly right so that it can't be hi-jacked by any one in particular.

In other news, still unemployed. I did find out on Friday night though that one of the pubs in the city centre may be looking for experienced or at least full time staff. The guys who own it are opening another pub up in Preston, down the road a way. The manager of the one here is going to be going down there to run that. The guy who was the assistant manager was pretty much covered to take over the managers role, with either one or the two full time blokes (known affectionately as Pinky & Perky) taking over the assistant managers role, or both of them taking it on jointly. The hotel manager would be staying however as she's the hotel manager, even though she also helps run the pub side. And then there's the full time lass who's technically a supervisor there, who could go into the assistant role, but I think she likes the way she's got things. Fly in the ointment here is that the guy who's currently the assistant manager has said that he wants to go down to the new pub as well. Now while Pinky & Perky are good staff, I don't think that they could run the place. This would mean that either they'd have to bring back one of the staff from their other pub here or employ someone new. It would be a shame in my opinion if they brought back someone from their other pub here, as it's been them going there that's turn the other place around and made it fun to drink in. So I'm considering asking the owner for a job. Preferably managing the place in the city centre, even though I live closer to the other place, or at least something full-time. I really should go out of my way to see him, or at least send him an email...
