Whatever happened to the life that we once knew?

The memorial for my stepdad was on Friday, two days ago. That evening I met my little stepbrother for the first and probably the only time. His mother led him around the room like he was a pet poodle being shown. The poor kid is fifteen and hadn't seen his father's side of the family for about eight years and he barely got to speak with any of them. Every time one person would try to talk to him his mother would step in, make some remark, and steer him away. Fortunately, we took turns keeping her busy so that Mom, our neighbour, and me could talk to him for a moment.
What do you say to your stepbrother, when you've just seen his estranged father die? Especially when he towers you by a full ten inches. It took forever to muster the courage to catch his attention. When I did I shook his hand and said, "Hi, I'm, er, your stepsister, Dale."
He smiled and we talked briefly. Then his mother saw us, came over, introduced herself while wearing a smug smirk, and led him away. Course, I didn't know what to say to him. 'How's school?' 'Still in karate?' 'How 'bout those...er...Gryffindor Lions?' Uh uh...
On a lighter note, my GED exams are in two weeks (scream!) and it looks like I can do some online instruction at Belmont Tech til I can move properly to my REAL home. Guess I should go review that Pythagorean formula. *sigh*

I think they said I was having a problem with integers, like 10 to the 100th power, or something like that. I can't remember. I'll be okay, I'll review it later at the library.
Right now Hurricane Katrina is whoopin' @$$ and not botherin' to take names. I'm hoping the Ohio Valley doesn't get hit too bad. Last year Ivan did a lot of damage to them. I hope it isn't an annual thing, either.

Empathies! So you are actually Madwoman? lol

My family has fragmented into dysfunctional nightmares since my brother divorced his exwife. The exwife is so West Virginia (pardon me) that she and her two oldest daughters had babies within 6 months of each other. My brother and his family were immediately excluded and I haven't seen my oldest nieces in 11 years - nor their children.

My brother's child has been sucked into this so far that now she only sees her father and childless aunties (me and my younger sister) are absolutely nothing. Families....

I'm starting to believe that "family" is just a bloody joke. Just as the Turin Shroud is simply Leonardo da Vinci's cruel joke on mankind.
It is. Look it up.
I may be a woman, but I am........the Madman!
