This time of year reminds me of the time that we as a family spent two summer holidays in a Quarry Cottage outside the
village of Beer(Not a bad name for a village)in Devon. My dad worked for Bath and Portland Stone at the time. There was quarry near by my Uncle Frank worked there before he went on to own the Loders Arms in Loders Dorset.
Remembering the the hill oppsite where me and my brothers used to climb up.The cottage was really old I remember the uneven floors the old fire place with those china dogs on the mantlepiece.Another thing I remembered is that next door was man who was cripple and he tried to get us to take a rabbit home with us.The only draw back was the chemical toilet which had to be emptied every day and having to empty it into the cess pit.
I have always promised myself a cosy cottage to live in, it's that quintisessential English image that makes me proud to live in this country.I still have photos off us their and I do remember having a guide around the quarries for free now you have to pay,the cottage is now private property I have how ever has it now has mange to put in a proper toilet and keept it to its original character.
