Could it be that dad's ML was ML916? See the thread attached to the article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/F1849990?thread=479241 The discrepancy still remains - dad said his craft was spotting for the Roberts during a commando landing when the boat was destroyed, yet other evidence would suggest it was destroyed by a mine about a week later. I wonder if dad's action he has related was not at the Walcheren landings but some other assault involving commandos? But what about the monitor - these are essentially huge gun platforms that shell the enemy's defences. Surely they would only be employed in large-scale landings? Which takes us back to Walcheren. Ho hum.
