I've left this so late. I've only got a week till my UCAS form has to be in, and I've just finished the first draft of my personal statement. Anyway, constructive critique or downright piss-taking appreciated:

-----------------------------------------------
I have always found history to be the most interesting of my academic subjects. I suspect that this is due to it presenting a diverse set of challenges, requiring a wide range of skills in areas in which I personally consider myself to be particularly strong. These include the ability to form as balanced an opinion as possible by accumulating and critically evaluating the evidence, the ability to accept, adjust or reject that hypothesis as new evidence is uncovered, and construct a rational and well-structured argument to defend it.
As yet there is no particular area of history that holds my interest above all others, although I find topics such as German unification, the rise of Communism, and The 100 Years War, among others, particularly fascinating. This has lead me to read books such as ‘The Communist Manifesto’, Prestwich’s ‘The Three Edwards’, and Seaman’s ‘From Vienna to Versailles’ in addition to the material required for my course. I am also a subscriber to Modern History Review, and have attended a Cambridge Society lecture by Professor Jonathon Riley-Smith entitled ‘Islam and The Crusades in History and The Imagination’.

Currently I am studying Modern History, Physics, Maths and Further Maths to A-level. At first glance this appears to be a strange combination of arts and sciences. However, I find that many of the skills required in these disciplines compliment each other. For example, the structured logical approach required in mathematics is extremely similar in many respects to the skills required to construct or expose the flaws in an argumentative essay. In addition the combination provides a variety which might have been lacking had I chosen all arts or all science subjects.

I have many interests beyond my schooling. I have achieved grade 4 in playing the keyboard, as well as gold awards in both the Junior and Senior Maths Challenges. I was Finance Director for General Youth Productions – a Young Enterprise company with a turnover of over a thousand pounds. During this time I attended a management conference at Wycombe Abbey. I am an avid windsurfer, and have an RYA Level 1 qualification in addition to having passed the new ‘Fast Forward’ course intended to replace RYA Levels 2 & 3. I am also taking additional classes in Mandarin Chinese.

Hey u! Here's my thoughts then...

1stly - its a good start. 2ndly...

they already know what a-levels you are doing, so you dont need to state them again, so...

instead of...
*Currently I am studying Modern History, Physics, Maths and Further Maths to A-level. At first glance this appears to be...*

*At first glance, my choice of alevels, may appear to be...*

Check some of the grammer... coz some parts needed to be reread to make sense - maybe i just cant read english...

Do you need to metnion both junior and senior maths challenges? Why not just the senior?

If you think im wrong, i dont mind... show you're tutors too... they'll know better than me... Any work experience?
