This is pointedly subjected "11/9", not "9/11". I don't believe that the Americans have a calendar monopoly, just a fiscal one.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and America is left lawless and speechless.

I have to say that the European (well, basicly everywhere but the US) system of dates is more logical. However, wouldn't it be less confusing to say 11 September instead of 11/9, since someone could think that 11/9 meant November 9th, but noone would be confused by the meaning of 11 Spetember or 11 Sept. Remember that not everyone here uses the same order and it seems that it is better to try to avoid things with multiple interpretations.

Fair enough, but the point was merely to cause a foil to the fact that everyone seems to have taken up the American dating system when they talk about the Twin Towers, and not to create a rational statement... Incidentally, are you everywhere-apart-from-the-USian, or are you American?

Fnord,
I don't think anyone seeing the numbers 9/11 or 11/9 would confuse them at all. Those two numbers in any order are forever burnt into our consciousness. In fact, I think it is only Europeans that refer to this as 9/11. I've never seen a North American reference that ever called it 11/9 - they tend to say Sept.11 or 11 Sept. And there is (obviously) no need to add the year behind that.

No, 9/11 is definitley something we americans use to talk about it. It is not, however, seen as a date but as something to get really pissed off about.

hi N1NJ4,
Hey, long time no see! How are you? I stand corrected. You are totally right that it is always referred to as 9/11. I never even took into account that in Europe is *should* be called 11/9. I get so mixed up sometimes, like how Europeans call the the first floor of a building what North Americans call the second floor. So totally disregard my last posting.
Fnord, what exactly *is* your problem with this? Since this thing actually happened in the United States then it does make sense that it would be called 9/11. Doncha think?

No, they actually don't fit into the steryotype as well as you would think.
They do happen to be a little full of themselvs.

Well, you know I was just kidding about the ten gallon hats.
But yes 9/11 and 911 are remarkably similar.

A small amount of research indicated that there is a lot of other "simbolism" to the numbers as well, although all of it is trash. ex. George W. Bush = 11 letters.

I'm American. In this case, its pretty obvious what''s meant either way, but in general, its better o this site to specify whether you're using the American system or the just-about-everywhere-else system.

Why does 911 have some kind of significance?
And, to save me waiting for a reply to say what follows, I'll just say it now - assuming you prove that it does have some kind of significance, remember that this isn't chance or fortune, the event was designed and planned and influenced by human beings, who could've easily chosen the date on purpose.

Fnord,
In North America 911 is the emergency call telephone number.
Perhaps this was planned - if so, just another feather in their amazingly planned disaster cap.
This reminds me that I don't know the emergency call number for Spain - must look it up and write it down somewhere.

Az,
Give me some credit. I knew that. I just didn't think it was particularly significant.
How long have you been in Spain now? What if your spicey tortillas blew up in your face? You wouldn't stand a chance.

Fnord,
You are *such* a lurker! How do you know about my spicy tortillas?

Careful honey, you're starting to sound like he-who-shall-not-be-named. Except you forgot to mention that you were highly intelligent and had a phd and blah, blah, blah.

Sorry, thought you were talking about Voldemorte for a second (guess who got the new Harry Potter book from addled grandparents for their birthday! (Answers at the top of the post)) but I realise fully that it is toxx, yes. I wasn't actually lurking, I made a lucky guess. Then again, I do lurk quite a lot anyway.
I'm highly intelligent. I have decent results in my SATs, upcoming GCSE results that might just get me into college, and a cookie.

Well, guess who just got sent a copy of Harry 5 in the post as a gift for no particular reason? Meeeeeee!
>>I wasn't actually lurking, I made a lucky guess.>>
You luckily guessed that out of all the possible foods in the world that I am partial to spicy tortillas? Heck, I can't even remember which thread I might have mentioned that on.
I've been going to bed for ages now. Problem is, I always just want to be 'beamed' into bed, teeth brushed, face washed, nightdress on - all ready to just drift peacefully into a restful slumber. But all the pre-going-to-bed activity usually wakes me up too much. Also, it's so boring having to brush your teeth.
buenas noches,
az
