h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

 My nomination for the worst book of the year so far is Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, by Terry Brooks. Drawn from the script of the film of the same name - you may have heard of it - it simply stinks of cynicism. Sample passage: "Obi Wan Kenobi sat over the controls of the bongo, familiarising himself with their functions as Jar Jar Binks, positioned next to him, rambled on and on about nothing. Qui-Gon sat in the shadows behind them, silent and watchful. 'Dis is nutsen!' Jar Jar moaned as the bongo motored steadily away from the shimmering lighted bubbles of Otoh Gunga and deeper into the waters of Naboo," Trees died for this. Credit to the NZ Listener magazine

No. but I tried to. I was in the queue at the local library with all these young glass-wearing kids, innocently passing out large, melting, ice-creams when security threw me out. Something to do with not filling young minds with rubbish. I ended up sitting outside looking forlornly at the damaged wall where the Enid Blyton plaque used to be.

Personally i always thought the little billy blue hat and friends series were the worst books ever let alone this year, the hours that we spent at school, being forced to read something about as emotionally and intellectually stimulating as a lentil at a vegeterarians reach out program.

I mean i thought the whole point of reading was to allow your mind to grow, develop and create curiosity, leading to knowledge!!!

Well okay, To tell to you the truth I think that the worst books I've ever read were the Sailormoon comic books or those dumb animated Shakespehere cartoon books. Or otherwise, it's those John Grisham books which repeat themselves such as The Partner and The Runaway Jury. The proscess is always the same: lawyers and manhunt.

I agree. If plane trips weren't so mind-numbingly boring and you need something formulatic to pass the time his sales would plummet.

Well, yeah it might happen, but still it's boring. I've tried to read a John Grisham book in the library, but the librarian says I was underage because I was 13 not 15. So against her better judgement, I read it at home and I fell asleep from reading. So instead of reading the middle parts, I looked in the endings and find out most are the same. Some days I just wonder how the heck did that guy get so famous. I don't think my dad would publish his books at all.
