Winter again

Against all logic, it is sunny in Armidale this morning. No fog, no clouds only bright sun cynically shinine bright, giving promises of warm weather as it shines through the wimdow, tempting you outside into what is actually a cold Armidale winter's morning. No local believes the sun'd lies though.
Armidale weather comes in one main form at this time of year. Cold, or at least that is the idea. But the last two winters have been suprisingly warm, no snow to speak off, no road closures. This winter is still in training, and it is too early in the season to give predictions, except to say that spring will eventually walk away with the cup. Whether Autumn will relinquish it is still to be seen. Being a Uni town, many of the students from up north would love another warmish winter this year, though they still complain it is too cold.
For those of us who've been here longer than two years, and remember the last freezing winter, one of snow and black ice on the roads, plus constant sleet, we too wish for a warmer winter, but would still welcome a freezing winter like a long lost friend. Unseasonal weather maybe be welcome on occaisions, but too much can change, however slightly, the local landscape.
The freeze doesn't affect radio much, except for the breakfast crew on 2UNE, the student radio station, who complain of the bitter cold they have to face when they arive at 7am. Those of a more Queensland upbringing especially wish on air for much warmer climates, in between giving the news, community announcements and playing music. But as a while, radio remains unaffected, content doesn't change much, and the on air studio is rather warm. For those of us with night time shows, that is a blessing.
The student body as a whole don't really have much to complain about. Thier rooms at the colleges are well heated they get hot meals, the lecture halls are also warm. Going outside is a different matter, but that is their problem.
For those of us who work, the weather is forgotten as things pile up to do.
So winter has started. We await the results of the first rounds.
