CALIFORNIA BLONDE STUCK IN HOUSTON HELL

What's it like up there? I have been been about as far north as I have gone is Washington. My husband still has family up there but we have never visited. His great grandmother was born in L'Ange Garden PQ (where ever that is)and from what his mother says never spoke a word of english only french. I know that's a issue with some people there we have the same one with spanish speaking people.

Excuse my bad use of puncutation and spelling. My mother taught english for a while when we lived in Germany and always yells at me about it!

hi there,

In fact I am no longer 'up there' (Canada) but 'over there' (Spain). Moved here about eleven years ago. Via England. Anyhow, am quite at home here in Seville now. It's VERY hot right now, but I'll take that over snow and cold anytime.

What part of California are you originally from?

Nice to hear from you,
az

CALIFORNIA BLONDE STUCK IN HOUSTON HELL

A town called Vacaville it's in northern C.A. it's about 30 minutes east of San Francisco close to the Napa Valley area. In fact at the college I went to you could major in wine making.

My mother loves Spain they lived there before I was born (I am an Air Force brat)Madrid is her favorite place in the world.

How hot is hot? We are actually having a "cool front" because it's been raining and cloudy so it only got up to 98 degrees farenheit today. The weather in C.A. is the one thing I miss the most it rarely rained and even if it was a 100 during the day it was always 60 at night. I first moved here in July and kept waiting for the sun to go down so it would cool off but it never did.

So what are you doing in Spain? Still teaching english?

hi again,

Yeah, am still teaching English here though looking for other better ways to make a living. Hey, I'm no spring chicken - am 46 1/2 years old, so really have to get my sh*t together soon.

How hot is hot? Well it was 46ºC here last week. Don't know how that translates into farenheit - about 120ºF? Really hot. But I spent so much of my life (in Canada) feeling abyssmally COLD that I never ever want to feel that cold again. So I don't mind the heat. I think normal summer temps here are about 100ºF. but it does cool down at night - somewhat. But I don't mind. Have my trusty electric fan next to my bed which makes it quite comfy for sleeping. Of course, am a total insomniac, whether it's hot or cold, so end up lying awake most nights anyhow.

I have a friend who is not interested in food at all, except for the fact that eating food when she is really hungry then makes her not feel hungry anymore. Otherwise I think she wouldn't bother to eat at all. I think I'm kind of like that with sleeping. It feels like such a waste of time! smiley - smiley And once the sun peeps up over the horizon, even if I haven't slept all night and feel like death warmed over, I HAVE to get up anyhow. Don't want to miss another day.

I am the same way, I usually only sleep about 3 hours a day. My husband says that I am worried that I miss something, but I have always been that way it drove my mother crazy. She said I would be up wondering around at 3a.m. and wanting to go outside and play.

I just have so much do that sleep is a waste of time, even when I am on vacation I only get about 4 hours.

Your having Phoneix weather about 112-114 degrees, the problem with Houston is it will still be about 95-98 at night. I talked to someone in England who said they were having warm weather 20 C or 70 for us, that's a cold front for us.

smiley - ok a fellow insomniac! I'm sure there are many of us around. You know, the big thing here in Spain is the afternoon siesta - people lie down after lunch and nap for between 20 min - an hour. I have NEVER been able to nap. Even if I am soooooooooo tired I cannot keep my eyes open. I keep on keeping my eyes open until I think I can properly go to bed. Every now and then I end up going to bed at 9pm just cos I'm so bloody tired! And then I usually sleep through the night. Total exhaustion, I reckon. smiley - smiley

But mostly I don't sleep much.

Hey, I lived in England for almost two years and almost never saw the sun - also what they called 'summer' still meant I had to wear sweaters. No thanks. Much prefer Spain.

Happily, it does cool down here quite nicely overnight. I love getting up early and opening up all the balcony windows to let in the fresh early morning air - and my cats also take advantage of this to flop themselves out on the balconies.

CALIFORNIA BLONDE STUCK IN HOUSTON HELL

This past monday we did inventory at the store and all of the managers had to be there at 4:30 a.m. which means I better start getting ready at 3 I finally somehow forced myself to go to sleep between 12:30-1 a.m. and I was worried about over sleeping so I set the alarm for 2:30. I worked from 4:30 a.m. till almost 7p.m. on maybe 2 hours of sleep and my husband thought I was crazy because I forced myself to stay up till 10p.m. I knew if I went to sleep when I got home I would up by midnight and wouldn't be able to sleep again.

I know about siesta they do it in Mexico also and everything shuts down! We go to Mexico a lot and it drives me crazy! What do you do when everything is closed, you can't sleep and they have awful t.v. programs (plus I don't speak spanish)? My husband loves it! He would take several naps a day if he could, DRIVES ME CRAZY! I even remember school when I was young and we would have naptime, I would lay on mat and just try to keep my eyes closed so wouldn't get in trouble with the teacher.

There are days here when I have to shove my dog out the door and he gives that look saying "I promise I can hold it, it's too hot out mom".I woke up this morning at 5a.m. and it was already 90 degrees out. That's what I miss about California is the fact it was cool when the sun went down. I also miss dry weather are current humidity level is 97% which just makes it sticky. I take 3-4 cold baths a day in the summer months.

England sounds a lot like Germany we lived there for a couple of years and I don't think I ever remember seeing the sun.

If I am totally honest, I am probably totally envious of people who can suddenly drop into a deep and refreshing short nap and twenty minutes later awake and feel like they have been reborn.

Maybe I'm just too weird to sleep?

The never-ending question. Are we alive or are we only dreaming this? Who knows? Who cares? Still have to pay my rent! smiley - smiley
