New Evidence on Kings of Sussex.

DEAR ALL, YOUR RENDITION OF THE EVIDENCE REVEALED IN THE NOTHGYTH QUEST HYPOTHESIS (URL: anglo-saxonkingsofsussex.blogspot.com) IS EXCELLENT!!

THE QUEST, OF COURSE, SUGGESTS THAT CYNEGILS' SONS BY A SECOND CONSORT WERE: CENWALH, AETHELWALH, CENTWINE AND ST. AETHELWINE. IT IS THEN SUGGESTED THAT THE TWINS BERHTHUN AND ANDHUN, KING WATT AND BRYNI, DUKE OF THE SOUTH SAXONS, WERE THE NATURAL SONS OF AETHELWALH; FURTHER, THAT AETHELTHRYTH (LATER QUEEN) AND AETHELSTAN (LATER KING) WERE AETHELWALH'S LEGITIMATE ISSUE BY EAFE OF HWICCE. THE QUEST THEN PUTS FORWARD AETHELBERHT (LATER KING) AND EALDBERHT (THE DISSIDENT) AS THE CHILDREN OF AETHELSTAN. TO GO A GENERATION FURTHER, IT IS THEN CONTENDED THAT AETHELBERHT'S ISSUE WERE EALDWULF (KING AND LATER DUKE) AND AETHELWULF.
GOING TO THE OTHER DYNASTY, THE LINE IN THE QUEST RUNS THUS: HEGEL=WLANCA'S SISTER--AELLE(brother:Maelle)--CISSA(brothers:Cilta/Cidda)--WINE CISSING--DAUGHTER=CEAWLIN--CUTHWINE--CUTHWULF--ECGWALD(brother:Ceowald)--NOTHHELM=AETHELTHRYTH OF SUSSEX--OSRIC(brother:Osa+)--OSMUND(brothers:Oswald/Aelfwald/Oslac).

THE QUEST'S RECONSTRUCTED KING LIST AFTER 686 IS:
UNDER-KING ECGWALD 686-688
NOTHHELM AND WATT 688-C.700
NOTHHELM AND AETHELSTAN C.700-722 (RE: Ealdberht's first rebellion)
AETHELBERHT AND AETHELSTAN 722-725 (RE: Ealdberht's second rebellion)
AETHELBERHT 725-?758
OSMUND AND EALDWULF WITH AELFWALD AND OSLAC ?758-772

GO TO THE NOTHGYTH QUEST FOR THE SUCCESSION AFTER NOTHHHELM: SEE SECTION II, THE END OF THE ENTRY FOR NOTHHELM, PLUS GO TO SECTION IV AND SCROLL DOWN TO THE ENTRIES FOR AETHELSTAN, AETHELBERHT AND EALDBERHT.

WITH MY BEST WISHES, AETHELWALH.

Dear Bob,
Just a short word from Aethelwalh smiley - smiley
My real name is David Slaughter and I am the author of the Nothgyth Quest Hypothesis. There are several versions of this paper since my reconstruction of South Saxon history has been a long haul. smiley - smiley
You may have got the dates for King Cissa's reign from Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms - Sussex on the Kessler Historyfiles. If you go back there and click on 'feature' after the reign of Cissa ?514-567, you can visit the version of the Quest which I did for Peter Kessler. smiley - blush
However, if you go to the NOTHGYTH QUEST HYPOTHESIS, RULERS OF THE SOUTH SAXONS, URL anglo-saxokingsofsussex.blogspot.com you can visit the latest and most comprehensive version of the Nothgyth Quest, which covers the period from c430 till 825. smiley - biggrin
There you will find a carefully considered and detailed discussion on the rulers of the South Saxons from 645-825. You will need to take your time to read it since it is a long paper. smiley - blush
With best wishes, Aethelwalh smiley - bubblysmiley - biggrin
