In the radio series, Arthur asks the Nutrimat
'And you know _why_ I want a cup of tea?'
and the Nutrimat replies
'Please wait, computing...'
and ties up the resources of the shipboard computer, allowing the vogons to move in for the kill, requiring the assistance of Zaphod Beeblebrox's deceased great grandfather to help them out of this sticky situation.
In the books, Arthur tells the machine all about india, the history of the East India company, and so forth. So, yes, you're right. However he doesn't mention British Standard 6008 !

-laughs- I just read past that again in the Trilogy In Five Parts last night. I seem to recall it came out in a bone china teapot with three bone china cups and a note with "Please wait" printed on it and it was the best tea Arthur had ever tasted.
The real quote is forthcoming; I don't have the book handy.
