Mad Scientist

I am upset. Mostly with myself, to be honest, but thinking that way upsets me,
and I'm already upset so that's no good. I'm good with gadgets, things I can
see, handle, touch ... basically anything that I can break I can have a pretty
good chance of fixing it again. Musical recording equipment, however, was designed
by somebody with very little intuition - well, really, he did have some but re-
cording stuff is basically very complicated to begin with.

So. Here I sit, trying so hard to get a project done on time - a tribute CD set
to my all-time favorite band, Pink Floyd nonetheless - and I can't even get the
simplest functions of a standard four-track out of my $5000 DAW. Why? Cos I'm
a damned visual learner, that's why. And at last count there is just one (I know,
I counted 'em a lot of times to make sure - after 109026 counts, the average was
0.9908675 with a standard deviation of 0.006, so that means I'm pretty close to sure
there's only one) of me sitting here at my house that knows anything about
recording. So. No help here. In fact, more problems here. Why is something named
"Cakewalk" turning out to be EVERYthing but just that? This stuff is impossible -
at least for me - to learn. I even have advanced degrees in Chemical Engineering!
(insert one-liner mis-quote along the lines of "our minds being too highly trained"
here).

So. This thing WAS right. I feel much better getting rant about that for a bit.

On a side note, I think I'll use "Stark Raving Drool" in some form or another to
name my project band. I'll have to put that up for committee and then voting on
the floor before it can go to the president, of course, but basically at last
count there were approximately (within 0.01%) 1.0000003000009 of people with any
authority in this brain, so that nips that in the larvae stage.
