Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

Haven't been here in a while (or just ghost-moded, when I did drop by), but I suppose it's time for a quick journal entry, before I head out to Do Stuff.

Well, as the title indicates, I will soon be heading to NYC for vacation - leaving somewhere between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, local time, and landing in Kennedy Airport on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 21st, local time (which will mean a 30-hour day, but that's how it is with time zones).
On October 23rd, Leonard Cohen will be playing in Madison Square Garden. That was the official reason for starting to plan this vacation. I'm very excited about seeing that show - my sister has been to the show he did in Israel not long ago (I couldn't get a ticket in time), and said it was an incredible experience.
Other than that, there will be some visits to NYU to check things out, a short excursion to Niagara Falls, and of course the many attractions of New York City. And really, just generaly the happiness of being on vacation. It'll be good.

And, well, that's all for now, really. smiley - smiley Might drop by again now and then before I go, but other than that, don't expect much hootooing until sometime in November, when I come back... hopefully with some pictures this time (last summer I had my camera lost/stolen near the end of the trip, with all the pictures in it).

Later!

Well, November it ain't...

And I don't even have any pictures to show you lot. Well, yet. I did not lose my camera this time, but Dan and I have been kinda lazy with captioning etc. on the pictures. But the album is a-l-m-o-s-t finished. smiley - erm Really. I promise. Really!

Anyway, it's been a wonderful trip. Leonard Cohen was amazing. The whole Niagara Falls area is absolutely beautiful in autumn (the leaves, oh my god, the leaves! So gorgeous). New York was, well, New York - fun, fascinating, full of interesting things, good food, strange people, and pretty much everything else. We've been to the aquarium (and saw walruses! YAY!!!), and the zoo (red panda!!! smiley - love but missed the aardvark, there smiley - sadface ), and a bunch of museums, and the Village Halloween parade; we've seen the city covered with confetti after the Yankees' who-remembers-how-many victory in the baseball thing (honestly, doesn't it stop being exciting after you realise your team just keeps winning? I've always liked underdogs, it's much more interesting that way); I went to a couple classes in NYU, and now I'm hoping more than ever that I get accepted to the PhD this year (because there's just no way I can afford the MA programme I was accepted to); and there must be more things that I'm forgetting. It was lovely.

smiley - puff

Almost time for me to go to sleep, so, well, mostly I just wanted to say hello again. Like I mentioned some time before, it seems I return here in waves, sort of - every once in a while I figure 'wow, I haven't been on h2g2 in... how long? really? sheesh!', and come back here, and slog through the backlog and then write some stuff to let the few people who still remember me know that I'm still alive and well. smiley - smiley So, here's another of these times, and I hope it'll last a while.
I did go through a whole bunch of backlog, so even though I noticed that some people are definitely still around, and some others are back after long absences, and Ivan is still writing fascinating thoughtful journal entries that are just too long for me to read, and Paul H is still documenting his ever-weird dreams, and 2legs is still writing entries that are this odd combination of mundanity and insanity (smiley - erm munsanity?), I couldn't really pay much attention to what people are actually up to.
So hey, let me know, yeah? All of you. Yeah, you too *points*! I wanna know how you've been doing.

smiley - hug

I know I'm not here often, but h2g2 is still one of my favourite places.

Time for bed. But I'll come back.

See you later!

Ivan - Ah, working is good. Well, exhausting, definitely, and I guess falls into the 'necessary evil' part of life, but in general, it's good to have work. I'm looking for a job myself, but not much luck so far.
Buying a house also sounds like a good thing. Very homeowner-like. Very respectable.smiley - smiley Good on ya.

Terri - Good luck with the meet! I hope you can make it.
We've had a rather springy weather here, this weekend; but I actually hope we'll get some more winter before, well, before the end of winter. We've had a bunch of rain, but it's still not enough.

Hiya Lady P!

Don't know if i can make the meet, been diagnosed with shingles today; which is contagious for anyone who hasn't had chickenpox; i'd hate to infect half of hootoo (or germany!)...depends how long it takes to clear up...

Plus i seem to have been dumped by P; so need to find somewhere else to live pretty fast & a paying job ASAP.

(smiley - doctoradvised "rest, keep warm, make sure someone is looking after you"smiley - rofl

Great timing eh?

Terri smiley - hug I wish you the best. Just peeked in your journal, and I don't really know what to say, but I hope you can patch things up with P. From what you wrote about him before, it seems he's worth it. (But I'm hardly the person to ask for relationship advice; I have no experience besides me & Dan, and we're hardly normative...)
By the way, if this relationship stuff does end up well, and you stay in the farm, have you considered looking for WWOOFers? I mean, I'm not sure how 'organic' you count, but you are a farm, and seem rather 'green' all-in-all, and you already take occasional guests, so why not someone who will also help with farmwork?
Maybe try here: http://www.wwoof.ie/ or even on CouchSurfing.
Good luck with everything, anyway!

Dargonfly: smiley - biggrinsmiley - hug Nice to see you here as well!

Now, where's everybody else?
*taps foot impatiently*
