I find it appalling. As I mentioned in an email to Az just today, (I paraphrase) I am sick of people who can't take the time or make the effort to spell and punctuate correctly. I'm certainly not going to take the time or make the effort any longer to try to understand WTF they're trying to say.

Oh you dont want that now do we??we of the lesser intelect are a burden .
Then again the self importance of some on this sits is mind boggling.
Just because over the years ones belief in themself has become more and more outrageous.
Its pointless being that way as you've kindly said on many occasions we all end up the same
The more you learn in this life, the more you wont know youve actually known. when your in your box or in a urn.
learning really helps doesnt it???

Not a troll, Rev. Just someone who can't be bothered to make a little effort to communicate clearly.
The thing I wonder is: Why does this particular individual feel that my comment was directed their way? I didn't mention any names. I take part in lots of conversations on a number of sites: I could have been describing a great many individuals' habits. In fact, I might have more likely been describing a general reaction to those habits which are shared by many. I didn't even mention names in my conversation with Azahar, so it's not a case of email hacking.
I wonder why this individual came all the way over here to be personally offended by a post that in all likelihood was not directed at them.

As I understood it, you were referring to the habit, in general.
Obviously, you hit a nreve. It take no time at all to add a period at the end of a sentence and to add a space between words. I don't think it is expecting too much for people who are perfectly capable of typing, especially where they obviosuly aren't illiterate or have dyslexia (just lazy) to take the extra time to do so.
We all make typos, I make a lot. No one is perfect. However, here is a big difference between making a mistake or being dyslexic (there are several people here who are and we all manage to take it in stride) and simply being lazy.

Im refering to the arrogance of the post 442,Slating peoples english behind their backs.
Why when somebody spells incorrectly, why not tell them instead of saying it when their not their.Or you to much of a coward to say so??
Nobody on this planet is more important than the next person,No matter how much you learn and know, the Knowledge youve gained in all those years, becomes pointless when your pushing up the daisies.
sigh....

Beacuse, BB, some people are simply lazy and CHOOSE not to use punctuation and think "netspeak" is English (which, as stated many times before is not the same as being unschooled in grammar and spelling or having a legitimate reason for not being able to spell). Those of us who get fed up with people who are just ill-mannered have every right to say so.
If you are taking exception to the posts which CLEARLY referred to people using netspeak and bad spelling and grammar because they are lazy, then you obviously can't read (or are just belligerent, which, judging from many of your interjections into threads simply to poke fun at posters, as you did on the Retail Rants page when you told us all to "get a life") then that is your problem.
As was mentioned to you, this is a semi-private thread and you are most welcome not to bother coming in.... Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Standard practice in Callahans, for those not familar with the brilliant series of short stories and the slightly less brilliant novels by Spider Robinson, is that when someone makes a pest of themselves, they tend to wake up in the alley out back courtesy of the piano player, Fast Eddie Costigan's blackjack. The last time Callahan actually ejected someone was 1947, a fella by the name of Big Beef Macafferty, who was chucked out the front door without anyone bothering to open the door, which explains the long crack in the heavy oak portal. The fastest way to get a lump behind your ear is to persist in asking personal questions after being told not to, or to be just plain rude.
I'm a professional copy editor and I make as many typos online as anyone. I'm not one to complain about the occasional mispelling or use of its for it's, but when people write like subliterate morons - by this I mean netspeak spelling (ie. "R U serious?"), using the wrong words constantly (effect when they mean affect) and generally foggy thinking - it is like fingernails on the blackboard to me. In so-caled "real life" I tend to avoid conversing with people who screech, grunt and fling feces around the room, so I don't think its unreasonable to extend this to cyberspace.
The bottom line is this: If you wish to be welcome here, behave like a civilized person, learn and practice the basics of grammar, spelling and punctuation, and don't get on everyone's nerves just for the sake of doing so. There is nothing wrong with a genuine difference of opinion or a heated debate over ideas and opinion - indeed these are more than welcome - but if you want to pick a fight, do somewhere else.
