Bush and his people have achieved what Nixon and Hitler only dreamed of -- perfect self-censorship of the press.

Here is a really nasty tale about prisoner abuse and the lengths to which the army is going to cover it up.

Did you guys see this? http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36~11676~2606736,00.html
Adelaide posted it on a thread somewhere but it didn't get much of a response.
Personally, I find it absolutely unsurprising and a hint of things to come all over the world.

WTF- What common water does Equador and the US share??? This is outright piracy and ignoring of international law! I fear for Canada. Do I have to buy a high powered rifle and scope and wait in the mountains to shoot US soldiers who want our lumber, gas, and oil??? I am definitely up to it!!! These f****rs deserve death and worse for this c**p. I swear, the rest of the world is too damn liberal to see what is happening. I see the swastikas in Cuba to be nothing more than a political statement, a belief unlike the US State department who ignore the "75" logos as freedom symbols.

"U.S. officials add to the pressure on Ecuador's government, withholding $7 million in aid because Ecuador refuses to grant U.S. government personnel immunity from prosecution in the International Criminal Court.
That money was to help Ecuadoran villages resist cocaine barons who "now have a special route through Ecuador to the USA," Stacey said last week in an interview. Holding it back "will affect the USA.""

Remember Halabja? The Kurdish village in northern Iraq. The poison gas.
How many remember that Halabja was occupied by the Iranian army when the poison gas attack took place? How many reports of Iranian army poison gas casualties in Halabja have we heard? How many times has it been repeated in the western press that Iraq did not have the type of poison gas used at Halabja, but Iran did have it and did use it at other times during the Iran-Iraq war? Not to say that Saddam is a nice boy, but if they're going to trot Halabja out at his trial, I sure hope somebody takes a minute to tell the truth. Particularly some of the American government officials who have investigated Halabja and concluded that Iran dropped the gas.

speaking of those who will be first against the wall when the revolution comes, one of my least favorite tv scumbags has been made to walk the plank.

Now, wouldn't it be nice if Fox did the same with O'Reiley? And everybody else on their network. Heck, maybe they could just fold the whole thing and increase the collective IQ (and politeness) of the "news" media in the U.S. by about 200 points. And maybe some of that intelligence would trickle down to the average (former) Fox viewer.

Here is the transcript of the Crossfire show: http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/bljonstewartcrossfire.htm
I like the bit about Carlson blaming Stewart for not being hard-hitting after Stewart said that shows like Crossfire don't do nearly enough to take politicians to task.... He's a comendian and it's a comedy show, you moron.... that's your job....
Actually, I think that the Daily Show does a better job of getting to the gristle than any of the so-called political debate shows do. Most of those are screaming-matches which never do get to the point.

WOW! they've reprinted it, I'm amazed. Does it include the cheesy author's photo of Kurt Vonnegut/another sf writer/a german shepard in huge beard, glasses and hat? I haven't read it since about 1982.

Not only is it reprinted, it's a deluxe leather bound edition! So I'm getting it new for a little over twenty bucks. Oddly, Chapters also offers second hand copies of the same edition for almost 100 bucks.
I don't know what picture it has. I think the paperback copy I have around here somewhere has the german shepard.

anyone home?
How did this place get emptied out?
Well, I think I'll just tip a chair down, pour myself a single malt, and crack my copy of 'The Crazy Ladies of Pearl Street' and see if anyone comes by before I pass out under the table.
