I would be happy to buy you tickets in advance, and may even have some for free through work. I am unable to put you up but you could park your van at a number of places I could arrange. Hotels start at CDN$120 in the summer and this is a tourist town so they book up. I could arrange the use of the gym at work for showers, etc. but it is not opulent by any stretch. If need be I could stand you a night at a hotel near there, if that suits you.

*Hides Head in Shame*
We had a big re-schedule so that we could see ~jwf~ at the end of July and go to Burning Man in August. This means we are going to be in BC from Monday 18th August to Thursday 21st August.
Sorry.

The salmon and beer will still be available, however.

Hmm.
It is a lot less enticing, isn't it?
I personally would plumb for the agricultural festival - let the hick compare the sticks. But I am blessed with the ability to enjoy anything once, so any of it will do for me.
We won't need Entertaining with a Capital E, you know. Just hanging out sounds good too!

Oh - we have tents for camping, and I think the van is usable for sleeping in too - I am hoping that we can think about campsites nearer the time - even the small amount of organisation we have done so far has left me exhausted!

I'll line something up for you if I can with tenting.
Vancouver in the summer is definitely a tourist town so there are lots of things to see and do. We can decide over the first rum and coke.

Ah - but one rum and coke inevitably leads to another... This is not a bad thing, there are few nicer ways of spending an evening than watching the sun go down over water with friends.

Can't talk about non-peace so let me tell you what it is like.
(As will guess I am horribly biased)
In the summer, when you sit on the terrace of one of my favourite little restaurant/bars the sun sets between the uprights of an old swing bridge. The sun sets over the very distant Vancouver Island which provides just enough pollution to make it spectacular. All the while the sailboats are coming back to harbour, full of smiling people who toast you as they pass your table close enough that you might reach out and touch a mast. On the other side of the bridge you can see all the kiters reeling in everything from four man parakites to delicate Tri-wing Fokkers. Right across from you, easily reached by the tiny water taxies the Public Market is closing up and getting ready for the theatre produtions that will start in an hour or so.
We will have to decide whether we want to go there or to a smokey (and therefore illegal!) Blues Bar up the street. Or maybe Delilah's, a martini bar overseen by a 6'2" man in drag....
And that's just the first evening!

A choice of heaven, heaven or heaven then? I am looking forward to them all!

Haven't gotten around to calling you. Did you give me your number for any particular reason? I get the feeling it was to give me some (welcome) advice about a mutual friend. <?>

a girl called Ben Posted Mar 17, 2003
No particular reason - I don't give advice much. I do occasionally share my thoughts, but mainly on an fyi basis - I work on the assumption that the people whom I respect, (and you are one of them), are big enough and bad enough to make up their own minds about things. And since making one's own mistakes is the quickest way of getting big enough and bad enough, preventing people from learning is one of the cruellest things one can do.
So - no advice - the doctor is out.
I gave you the number so you could call me if you wanted to, without expectation or agenda.

Thank you!
That was a very nice thing to do.
I don't make friends easily and I believe you to be one.

(Sometimes smileys are not appropriate - let's just say that I am looking forward to Vancouver in particular)
