Interesting... does it do the same sort of thing as adding a url to your Hosts file and giving it the address 127.0.0.1?

I have been having a problem with a trojan on my home computer.
I have run AVG, Spybot, AdAware, and tried running a number of other spyware/virus-scans (which for some reason just stop before the scan gets started). Norton apparently had a "bug" which caused it to crash... their solution was to uninstall using the most complicated series of instructions (a NASA mission would be less complicated) and then reinstall... I have never been able to uninstall Norton because it keeps reinstalling itself... so Norton in of no earthly use.
When I run the AVG, Spybot, and AdAware, they will all find a number of adware/spyware/viruses. I will clean them out and as soon as I am back on line I get two website popups (despite Popup Stopper being up and running). One is for www.9ringtone... and the other for www.paypop.
As well, I have had shortcuts to a spyware removal site (not stupid enough to fall for that one), an online dating service, and a holiday planner....
I had a search and found a number of sites mentioning both 9ringtone and paypop, mostly German and almost all promoting them as moneymakers. I have found a couple of bulletin boards with questions about how to deal with them, buit no answers.
It is really annoying, as the popups keep appearing every couple of minutes and I have to keep shutting them down. again!!!!

Have I mentioned that I got a good review in the Old English Newsletter? That was particularly gratifying.

Hey MH.. Have I mentioned how much I hate MS winbloze? Your 'pooter is running win ME, I seem to recall..
Norton security products suck big time. I've rescued a few windoze computers from Norton's insidious data corrupting silliness.. There are much better, free alternatives
Are you using MS IE browser? It may have been hijacked.. If so, go here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html , and get 'hijackthis' -- follow the instructions, and see what happens.
'Spybot search & destroy' is also a good anti-spyware app, http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
On my winbloze box I use the free version of winpatrol http://www.winpatrol.com/
If you are normally paranoid, , you hardly need an anti-virus, but clamwin is a very nice, unobtrusive app -- http://www.clamwin.com/
AVG is generally good, but I stopped using it a while back after I had some weird problems with a database upgrade
If you don't have a hardware router/firewall, you might want to try the excellent, free Kerio Personal Firewall --- get the older one, the 'new, improved' one is unsatisfactory.. You can find the old version here: http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2005/PL2005SECURITY.php
Or you could download and run any one of: Mepis, Knoppix, Ubuntu, 'live cds', or install Libranet linux, and save yourself a lot of bother
gmail me if you would like some help

There's an Old English Newsletter? For some reason, I find that mildly amusing.
Can you teach me Old English? I tried to teach myself with a grammar I found at the public library and a few poems (The Seafarer, etc.) but my attempts were not entirely successful.

I don't know that I could teach someone Old English online. Seems to me there are a few online tutorials, however. If I remember correctly, this one is highly regarded: http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ballc/hwaet/hwaet06.html

Getting back to the thread of this topic....(yes, intended)
Yes it was a pleasant surprise, mildly pleasant and a HUGE surprise.
Seriously, yes you have mentioned it and congratulations. I trust the congratulations don't swell your head until your new goggles don't fit. Did I mention I'm trying on some new goggles this weekend? Beer goggles.

Seriously Anhaga let me be frank (you can be Shirley, same as usual), congratulations on the recognition AND today's front page entry.

Yes, things are going well here the last few days. Now if I can just get that librarian to do something about this crease in my flyleaf. . .
