When experiencing wireless networking difficulties for a period longer than nine months, search out the manufacturer's installation guides, read them, and follow their instructions.

Manuals? You don't need no stingkeen manuals!
I really wanted to spell it *Manuels*, aren't you glad I didn't?

I've been struggling for months with my notebook locking up about every five minutes. This morning I finally did the three steps in the Manuel(winkeye> and it's working like a charm.

Manuals are for sissies... real men use hammers!
I just finished reconditioning an older P3 desktop for a client. Partway through installing software, I noticed the 14GB drive was indicating only 2GB..
I pulled the drive out, and found some rocket scientist had installed the jumpers limiting the drive to 2GB
Why would that jumper setting even exist?

Operating systems prior to Windows 95B couldn't cope with a drive unless it was 2GB or less.
I had a hard disk on a card once that I had to saw in half to get it to fit in the computer. So add hacksaws to your list of tools for real men.

I've got an old W95 system that I still use. One of it's hard drives is divided into about ten 2gig drives.
But the thing is almost ten years old and still works like a (slow) charm.

Yes, I know Micro$oft operating systems prior to Win 95B couldn't cope with >2GB partitions
I just wondered why the drive has that 'feature', when one could simply partition the drive, as in anhaga's relic PC?
Why have a 14GB drive, and not use 12GB of it? It just seems foolish, or inefficient
afaik, fdisk has been able to partition hard drives since the early MSDOS days. Granted, fdisk is not regarded as a user-friendly app, but since most systems are set up by techs...

A wee bit of googlin' later...
It seems some *really* old BIOS couldn't handle >2GB, partition or no, and whatever OS
This would allow the drive to be subsequently installed on an updated motherboard, or with an upgraded BIOS

hmm. It actually seems that it was Opera that was locking up my system. I am now making the long postponed transition to firefox.

Opera locking your system
I wonder why/how?
Anyway, the 'fox' rocks, especially with a theme: Noia,
and one or two plugins:
Adblock, Sage, Web Developer, Flashgot, downTHEMall!, WebmailCompose, fireFTP, ColorZilla, ieview, JustBlogIt, QuickNote, SpellBound, FoxyTunes, User Agent Switcher, Auto Copy, ConQuery, DictionarySearch, Disable Targets For Downloads, Spoofstick, and US Department of Homeland Insecurity Idiocy Level

Weird, isn't it. Just the wireless bit. I wonder if it might have has something to do with the ads (as if I would actually buy Opera). No problems with Firefox.

Well, I downloaded Mozilla yesterday but didn't like it. So this evening, I downloaded Firefox and, so far, like it.

Once you become familiar with the adblock plugin, you'll *really* like firefox
The wildcard * feature is very
BTW, Thunderbird email is also quite good

I don't get ads anyway, beause of my Norton Internet Security. I had a period of panic earlier when, out of the blue, whenever I opened a folder on my desktop, it would be blank. It would say "56 files" but I couldn't see then at all. Finally I fixed it but I'm not sure why it happened.
