I realize that we in Canada are quite used to wildfires (during the drought we endured here in Alberta a few years ago we had some which came startlingly close to Edmonton, southwestern Alberta was shut down this summer due to fire risk, the B.C. interior is always at risk and I grew up in northern Ontario with the images of Pete and Billy racing up the ladder of the fire tower at the opening of each episode of Rainbow Country) but the idea of fires ripping through (one of) the cradle(s) of civilization, the Peloponnese is surreal and disturbing.
This is Sparta!
