The Mary Whitehouse Experience
Inkwash Posted Mar 12, 2003
Got to add my worth here!
I loved Mary Whitehouse Experience, and then In Pieces even more.
"Oh, Robert Smith from The Cure. I *really* think you're the greatest musician who ever lived and I *loved* all your songs"
*whack!*
The things that stick in my mind were the Poltergeist scenes (I'll leave their door *slightly ajar* and then they'll come back and wonder "I'm *sure* I closed that")
and Rob Newman's suicide (I always said that if I did something really stupid, like murder someone, or wait for ages for the kettle to boil without plugging it in...)
I seem to remember that, after the first airing of TMWE, someone complained to Points of View saying they had expected a documentary on Mary Whitehouse's career.

Kind of like the people I heard about recently from the Barnsley Model Railway Club, who went along to see Trainspotting expecting a silver screen outing for bespectacled nerds with notepads and pencils.

The words "read the review" did occur to me at the time.

Rob Newman is doing a comedy tour at the moment 'From Caliban to the Taliban', and it is very good - funny, thought provoking, what more do you want. Well worth going to see Until later....
