I had a dream last night, where I was telling someone that I had seen a snow leopard. I wondered if that meant I was supposed to buy one of these:

Which would of course necessitate buying one of these:

Has that happened already? Do I really want it if it's so new?
Oh, well
I am looking for any excuse to buy a new laptop This one is slow, won't play any discs (let alone burn) and the battery last about 15 minutes.

You already let me back on your ps, So I'll post just the once here.
Get the very very best thing you can afford. And yes of course it will be a Mac.
Go for it. Who needs excuses?
I won't post here again though...but you needed to be told that.
Okay (Hope you'll forgive me posting here).

Effers is right. If you can afford it then buy the best you can afford. That said there are a few things to be aware of...
1. This from The Register - http://www.reghardware.com/2011/09/14/apple_preps_macbook_pro_refresh/
2. This also from El Reg - Part one - http://www.reghardware.com/2011/07/22/review_apple_mac_os_x_lion/ and part two - http://www.reghardware.com/2011/07/25/review_apple_mac_os_x_lion_pt2/
3. If you are not bothered about up-to-the-minute then consider refurbished hardware (here for you - http://store.apple.com/nz/browse/home/specialdeals/mac ). I have not bought brand new since the G3 iMac back in 2000.

That's a great idea turvy. I could get a refurbished 17" for the price of a 15" (can afford the 15" but have been wanting the bigger screen to cut down on scrolling which is hard on my body).
What do you think about this?

I'm not really up with the play. I'll have to ask around in NZ too about the refurbishing. I've had too much trouble with superdrives, so would need something to make me trust Apple here

I'm not worried about up to the minute latest stuf. I do like my computers to last a long time though. I've had two laptops since 1999.

That MacBook Pro looks really good.
I have never had a problem with Apple Refurbished products (this applies to iPods as well as computers).
They are returns that, for some reason have not worked for the buyer and Apple take them back under warranty, diagnose the problem and replace the part(s) that have failed. They are effectively new but cannot be sold as such so they discount them and resell them.
I am posting this from a refurbed MacBook (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I have not had a problem with any of the drives in any of the Macs I own - every one has worked without fail. (I have even had two of them running Ubuntu as well as Mac OS and the Superdrives work in both systems.)
Go for it!

I'm getting really tempted. Would you recommend the extended warranty?

No. They are not worth it in my view and I have never bothered. Nor have I ever needed one for any electrical item - TV, stereo, iPods, phones etc.
That said it really depends on you level of risk averseness (is that a word?)
