Discovering things to do with my new house

Post 1

Well, been in since saturday and thought I'd check the radiators and bleed them as upstairs wasn;t getting that hot but downstairs was. And the boiler seems to be a really good one/very efficient. And there was a fair bit of clonking when it was going.

Downstairs, no probs. All radiators were bled.

But upstairs smiley - yikes ! Pressure was showing as 1.5bar when I started. Three of the upstairs radiators were as good as empty! Bled them for ages and had to keep repressurising the system! The system did keep pressure so I don't think I have a leak. But really, I can only assume they were never filled when fitted!

This would tie in with the double glazing - fitted but not finished properly. All in all it seems to have been outfitted by someone who didn't care about the little things that complete a job!

Now just wait and see if the pipework takes the increased pressure!

hardly a heatwave round here! And so far the pressure is keeping OK.

Would probably be a lot warmer if it didn't have loads of drafts.

Especially the front entrance which is the original 1930s one (complete with leaded and stained side glass smiley - smiley ) so not exactly an hermetic seal!

Hermetic seal? What's that then? Is it a lone, solitary seal with a whelk shell on its back?

Very valuable, that 1930s original entrance. We have some good ventilation in our historic house too. Despite that, when we had a wood burning stove fitted, we had to choose a smaller model to avoid having an air brick too smiley - erm

Sounds like some door base draught excluders will be on your shopping list!

My heating doesn't work at the moment, after a disastrous breakdown of my boiler... smiley - wah

Hopefully will be fixed before it gets cold again! smiley - laugh I need a new one.... Note to everyone... get breakdown cover on your boiler... BEFORE it blows up... smiley - rofl

RF - yep, that's the fella. Used to have one living in the last house I owned, funny little creatures.

yes, boilers, expensive ain't they? This one is quite new however so I'm lucky on that score. The one I left in my previous house wasn't though! And yes, the boiler cover was a welcome thing!

Although check your house insurance as my boiler breakdowns were covered in winter as emergencies. Obv. not winter atm though!
