Sold me house! Well, accepted an offer on it. All a bit odd really, especially as when I phoned up to counter their offer, they had already phoned back to up their offer to more than the amount I was haggling at! Can't be bad, eh?
Course, we now have all the fun bits to go through and it could all yet end in tears.
Oh, and I haven't got a house to buy yet so I could be into rented for a bit. But we shall see. Got a couple of houses to look at this weekend so that's a start.

Have to make sure I get one with a cellar then.
I mean a low visibility vertical guest apartment extension.

Ooof, good luck, hope it all goes smoothly, I've got all this coming up soon for the second time in a year, the cash at the end of the process is good but the rest of it is all turnip.
Hope you have some competent estate agents, ours nearly cocked our sale up last year
I'm sure the course will be smoother with yours
A word of warning, beware of electrical surveys they're really gunning at these at the moment and if your wiring is at all old, watch out for it.

Ooh, thanks for the warning, wasn't aware of that! I'm sure there's plenty to pick up, it's an old house, although it was done up about 10 or 12 yrs ago. It'll be fun no doubt

To be fair you are probably selling at a better time of year than us Estate-agent-wise.
We accepted an offer on the Monday after putting it on the market on the Friday in lated July last year. We didn't complete until October
We had to deal with both our lawyers and estate agents buggering off on holiday without leaving any instructions to their colleagues and a £400 bill from the electric survey that held up the sale for almost 2 months during which time I'd booted tenants our of my house (we sold my partners place) and we were paying for three properties with loans on top
Why did £400 delay it so much? A bright idea by our estate agents that we'd go halves with our buyers over this money. As it turned out it would have been cheaper for either of us to pay it on our own as we both had two more mortgage/rent payments we ended up having to pay.
We were told 'don't pay up until they exchange contracts'. Their advice as it turned out was, 'don't sign until they commit half the money.'
Of course neither of us knew this and so impasse was found with only an estate agent sunning themself in the meditteranean knowing any different.
We had to threaten to remarket the house in the end to break the deadlock - this would have probably bankrupted us had we had to do it so was no easy decision - but then we were going bankrupt anyway...
I was quite sympathetic with estate agents as regards the general consensus up to about five months ago...
I think I literally jumped around the office the day we heard they'd excahnged contracts though
Sorry to bring all this up but forarmed is forwarned I guess.

Sorry...I was trying to use my mouse to click on "reply". It wasn't till I looked down that I realised I was holding my mobile phone instead

Orcus, sounds very nasty, but at least it is over! I'm waiting for a few things to turn up on any survey, just depends on whether they do a fullstructural or not (I'm hoping not, but only cos I know the utility roof could do with a bit of repair (its a flat roof) and the garden wall needs the top few courses re-laying). But as you say, forewarned and all that!
VV - Looking for something a bit b igger than a 1 bed house!

Yes, I'm fully aware of that, but with a 1 bed house, you wouldn't have the problem of "strange, wierd old ladies" moving in, would you
Houses
Orcus Posted Feb 2, 2006
From what I gathered only about a third of buyers bother with the full structural survey, certainly ours didn't and I didn't when I bought.
Yes its over but we have to sell mine next and move to Wales properly.
Still we double glazed it centrally heated it and revamped the bathroom with some of Phil's equity so its much nicer than it was...

Bikers to one side. They have a rabbit that runs around the back garden. It's called "Kick start"
A lovely couple the other.
The house could also come with a guard dog if needed...

Are you being bothered with strange weird old ladies?
I will soon sort 'em out...

Orcus, sounds like it should move fairly easily. Hopefully better than last time anyway! I only got a full structural on mine as a) it was old and b) it had been structurally altered in the past and I'm paranoid!
"Are you being bothered with strange weird old ladies?"
Yep, and a rather odd younger women too
